With a billion i can think of a long list of people that could kiss my a$$.

buy back the house i lived when i was 15, make a deal with the neighbour who's old, so i get his too when he moves on.

it's a house on a hill with no other neighbours and a view to kill
and with land

build expand the house, garage, stables, solar panels and what not
then i'de disconnect and grow my own food
and for hobby, i'de play with horse power... the natural kind as well as the Stuttgartian kind

i could do that with 50 million, so the remaining 950 would be used on buying the land around it, and other investments to solidify my position ..

I'd give half of it to my church.
With the other half, I'd buy property in Southern Utah, Idaho, So cal and Arizona and build some really nice personal resorts there so I'd have a place to hang out no matter what the weather looked like.

i would quit any church i belong too.

then i would do the same thing as sammy. buy some great land, build a compound that is basically self sufficient. the land would need to be near a great city, so i could get blow and coke.

I'd get to work on my ultimate car collection:

Homologated Lemans road cars. Porsche GT1, Toyota GT1, Mercedes CLK-GTR.. the never made a Bentley Speed 8 road version but I would buy the molds and have one made...

As RWebb said.. I would want to throw money at something that could help a lot of people, something in the technology field where there is tons of underfunded research and small projects that, if the succeeded, would have big impact on people's lives.

start an institute to help extremely attractive women (18 to 35) who need a sugar daddy b/c of "issues" in their lives

- or did Jack Nicholson already do that?

[see - all my ideas involve helping people]

Not that much anymore? That's a billion dollars. People have problems with money management...

When my family first came to the country in 91, we survived on 450 a month. Rent was 350.

Really, comparing 1 B to 1 M is not even close. No amount of inflation makes that even a close amount to what a million could or should be today unless it might be South American inflation. I seriously doubt many could comprehend a bill unless you're Randy and want to spend it on research, etc. Personal materialistic expenses should satiate anyone after the 1st 100 million. With 900 more to go, it would be like that movie or 2 on the subject. Shear madness and folly. You'd have to start a foundation or something to put it to use.

Or, you could spend like Howard Hughes did. Maybe Mikey Jackson. My point is spending that kind of money would put most in a very crazy place and not a very fun one at that. My other point is that I disagree that a bill is now the benchmark for all the reasons I have stated.

Anyway, I'll take a 1 with any number of zeros behind it. Even a 10 spot would be nice.

According to some sources, there are more than 10M households in the world with net worth over US$1M.

Forbes claims there are 1,125 billionaires in 2008. FWIW, Forbes also states John D. Rockefeller was the first billionaire in 1916.

I also calculated what $1M in 1966, my birth year, would be worth today after inflation: $6,325,095.99

A billion is a long long way from a million, but making a million, while not common, is much more common today than several decades ago.

Is $1B the new $1M? Maybe $100M or $10M is the new $1M? The latter is a more reasonable statement, but lacks the "ring" of a beeellllllion.

And, when will there be the first trillionaire? That's a really big one.

Clone myself to sit here behind the computer and write these inane replies. I could be out golfing or shooting or fixing up and driving my Porsche instead....

Or I could do a great deal of good with my existing church that already helps feed, clothe, teach and train people who need it.

I would start a financial institution that originates speculative debt to unworthy clients. I would become even richer. Worst case, I run the company into the ground, get a sizable severance package, and perhaps even get some bailout bucks from the guys in DC.

When I have a $B I'll pretty much do anything I damned well want.

It will include:
Summer waterfront ranch & home with a dozen guest homes including all the toys for all my guests, such as a dozen sea-dos, horses, stables, boats, huge docks, golf course, driving range, paint ball field, air strip, hangar and planes and a personal helicopter that I would fly for expediated travel.

I'd have a huge winter ski chalet with guest suites right on the ski hill with ski in/out for both downhill and sledding. I'd have a dozen snow mobiles for all my friends and tons of guest suites. Another air strip, hangar and planes with my helicopter pad. We'd heli-ski all day long.

I'd have a tropical island with a majestic home for vacation get aways. There would be a ton of ocean type toys including sail boats, scuba gear, sea-dos and boats. I'd have my own private 4 bedroom jet for international travel.

Every home would have dozens of cars to drive, all of them very expensive. My ranch would have 6 Hummers for 4x4ing with my buddies; we'd drive all day in one direction and never leave my property! My staff would be waiting for us with a feast for lunch in a remote lunch chalet.

I'd have a dozen businesses all for the purpose of hiring "winners" with winning attitudes to inspire their personal dreams and goals. All my properties would host a variety of kids in a variety of ways for the same purpose.

I'd be happy everyday, living a joyous and fruitful life similar to the one I live today!

Nice, hope I'm invited...

I think you blew well over 1,000,000,000 on your dreams though.
