I have Roxacet (or something like it). It was a really potent liquid. I have to say that it really did the job. When it wore off it was not funny how painful it was. For the early period I would wakt up in the middle of the night after the meds had worn off and I would have to wait for the new dose to kick in. You could actually feel the pain dropping away. What pain it didn't manage, you didn't care about anyway. I was super happy when I could get off of it though. It affected me in lots of ways that I didn't realize. During the whole time I was on it, guitar practice was hopeless. My fingers didn't go where I intended them too. Fortunately, it was only about ten days before I was off of it completely.

Roxicet is liquid Percocet (oxycodone and acetaminophen)

Getting tonsils done as an adult is a brutal experience, stay hydrated, take lots of narcotics |
Had the same thing done6 years ago. Is the Uvulopalatopharyngoplasty a uvulectomy? I had it cut out and be prepared to be very very sore. I didn't eat for a week - only drank. I lost 18 pounds!
Good luck! |
When my wife had that done, a clot broke off when she coughed a week after surgery and she bled out a fair amount. Was well into triple digits in my integra on the way to the ER. They cauterized it again, we left and she went to surgeon, an air cooled VW guy, the next day. He took one look at her, told her to go back to the hospital. Gave her 3 liters of fluid starting a fourth when she finally peed, she was so dehydrated

I've only seen a couple of these. It certainly helps with the snoring. With lasers now (and electrosurgery) the bleeding is usually more controlled. The trick as I see it is to remove enough of the posterior soft palate to make it more difficult for your tongue to seal off your airway, but not so much that your beer comes out your nose every time you take a swig! Roto-rooting your nose will hopefully allow you to sleep with your mouth closed. You are going to have the mother of all sore throats (you will not be swallowing pills for at least a week). Good luck dude.

It's very small, like a drop or two, but I have noticed it on more than one occasion. I get water creeping past my eardrums. I can also have water in my mouth and lay down/upside down and feel it creep into my middle ear.
I had my Adenoids removed because they became inflamed and were much larger than they were supposed to be and staying that way. After they were taken out the void caused the Eustachian tube to enlarge I believe, and therefore the connection between my throat and ears is rather open. My voice dropped about a whole note immediately after surgery. |
It looks like I'll be checking in at 6:30am tomorrow morning. The closer this gets, the more I am dreading it.

Just go with the flow. Stay on top of your meds and you should be ok. With any luck you will benefit from it, but don't set your expectations very high. UPPP is not a reliable cure for Apnea. It did stop my snoring, and I seem to get very few colds anymore. Keep us posted on your progress

... and posts pics!! (Ewwww...)

One last thing: Don't breath near anything living, it won't stay that way. You will have breath direct from Mordor for weeks.

Going on 11 years ago I discovered that what I had was sleep apnea. The doctor told me that he could do surgery but that it was only a 50% chance that it would cure the problem. He said that if I could use the cpap machine the cure was 100%. I chose the machine and he was right. In over 10 years I have never spent a night without it.
If you have sever sleep apnea you can very easily use the machine and you will love it to the extent that you will never sleep again without it. Its life threating to sleep without it. If your case is not so bad then I can see how you might not like it. I think sleep apnea is like getting braces in that you go to some doctors and they will say you have it if you snore a little - like they use to put braces on just about every child whose parents drug them to see the orthodontist. Problems with the medical profession...but thats another topic. |
Well it's been a week, and I am still pretty much worthless. I can breath so much better, and my nose is straight, but my throat burns like I never thought possible. I'm taking some good drugs every 4 hours that I'm awake, and sleeping a lot. I thought I'd be going back to work today, but that is not going to happen.

Just gargle with hot shards of glass every couple of hours to make it feel better. ;)

Busted. I'm sure it does feel worse than the shards of glass. It's all relative. I drink coffee to calm down :)
