In other news, Richard Hammond has been chosen to drive. "I'm not a quitter" said Hammond.

The British team isn't very far along yet - looks like just a concept so far. If it is the Thrust SSC team, they know what they need to do.
We have a group near by here in Seattle that has been working on a car for almost 10 years - the North American Eagle.http://www.landspeed.com/ They have made several runs, and have plans to be at Edwards the same time as the British team with a diesel powered car.http://www.jcbdieselmax.com/html/home.php The North American Eagle will be at the Motorsports Show in Tacoma this weekend.http://www.motorsports2008.com./ That's our car highlighted in the advertisment.

I have very mixed emotions about this announcement of another British team going after the record. With the huge level of support by the British government compared to the apathy on the part of ours, I find it very depressing. I also find it very depressing when major corporations should be looking at the North American Eagle as an opportunity to, not only, increase their market share through the advertising opportunity but the inspiration for our young people to think about education in sciences, mathematics and other engineering fields. Why doesn't one of the schools of engineering or sciences at the University of Washington or other major Universities support this project? Why can't The North American Eagle find more than minimal financial support? Why doesn’t our government help us, as the British government is helping them? In engineering terms, we are technologically near ready to set a time for our attempt at bringing the record back to North America. BUT, we need support from our own government and corporate America. The team members can sit at freeway offramps with a buckets and a signs only so long before the vision of setting the record begins to fade.
