Grade 7 Ithaca!! WOW!!
Most of us will never see one of these in person. These went to princes aqnd presidents. Unbelievable craftsmanship. Photos are from Walt Snyder, author of the Ithaca book.

I used to live next to the abandoned Ithaca Gun factory ("Gun Hill") - had no idea there was such a rich history to it.

You lived in Kings Ferry? Ithaca was one of the "Fine gun" makers in the US along with Fox, Parker and LC Smith. They were bought by a company in Upper Sandusky Ohio and are still making the M 37.

I'd love to watch how they make that. I was in a museum in Dresden once that had a lot of muskets with that kind of work on them. They don't make them like that anymore.

You would have to have a LOT of time on your hands. They did all this with hammer and chisel.

Nope, in Ithaca new york. I guess they moved to Kings Ferry in 87. Their old abandoned factory was pretty trashed. Some friends once climbed their smoke-stack.

When my dad was 12 years old, he picked blueberrys all summer, and earned enough money to buy himself an Ithaca 12 gauge for duck hunting. He payed extra to get one with some simple bird hunting scenes engraved on the side. He was a blue collar kid, and the gun was considered quite 'fancy' in his part of town. Still has it today.

Yep, Gun Hill. Ithaca, NY. A little further out from town past the factory was a roadhouse. I had Jack Kahn and Chuck Mike stuffed in my TR3 and got in a little gravel and flattened a rear fender on the guardrails. We didn't stop. Link Wray and the Wraymen were at that roadhouse and we were ready to bug. The Bug. 1963? Though I saw a few Ithaca shotguns as a kid, none had a Damascus twist barrel like the one above. Nor engraving like that.

Remember me to Herald Square.... Far Above Cayuga's Waters - was back (briefly) this summer to show my 17 y.o. daughter the campus - I still think its breathtaking, but she's looking for something smaller - Dartmouth is first on her list. I can get behind that.
