Service Pack 3: install or not?

I always resist these "updates," thinking there's a high likelihood they're not necessarily gonna be good. SP3 downloaded onto this machine a coupla months ago just like it did for most everyone else who is running WindowsXP.

Install or not? Is resistance futile? Discuss.

I have been running it since beta. Absolutely no reason not to install. it is one of the best SP's MS has put out. Among other things, many benchmarks show it makes XP faster.

I have updated several rigs, no issues that I have heard about. Didn't notice any improvements or speed increases either.

All depends on how you use your computer.

XP has been around for so long now, no reason not to put it on. I'm using it on a laptop and workstation with no issues.

Put it on. Lots of security issues fixed up, and other bugs fixed as well. Also, as another poster noted, many benchmarks show it to be faster.

I installed it on my laptop and the machines @ work, no problems.

Better make sure you are prepared to uninstall it. Have your Windows XP CD handy in case you can't restore the computer.

I installed it on my Pentium 4 1500HZ machine and it boogered it up good. I still haven't gotten my computer back to normal. I now have a conflict with my wireless antennae that shuts down my computer when it conflicts with Windows for control of the wireless. There are other things going on too...it's just been a mess!

If your XP machine has been running fine, don't mess with it by installing SP3. Just my take....but I'm no IT guy.

SP3 is spiff, make sure your drivers are up to date. That is all.

Installed it on 250 computers...no problems

It will patch Remote Desktop application so it asks for certificate though, but there were no show-stoppers. Good SP...probably last for XP as M$ pushes for Vista.

Check your manufacturers site for updated drivers. Many of the new drivers require installation prior to installing SP3 or SP1 in Vista. I have used Toshiba's site recently and it was real helpful.

I installed it and for some reason it replaced my Soundblaster drivers with "legacy audio" drivers and wiped out my sound. I had to do some manipulating to get my sound back. Other then than, no issues.
