Starting a self-sustaining hermit life?

What would be involved? I figure I could buy a parcel of land way south of Miami for cheap. I could grow fruits and vegetables, get a bunch of chickens for eggs and for eating, get a cow for milk and a bull for making more cows so I can eventually kill the first cow for delicious steaks and burgers. I get a bunch of guns for keeping perps away if the world falls apart. I could use the remainder of my excess crops to sell for money, which could be used to pave a small karting track on the far end of the property, and then buy a kart. Now I have everything I would ever need. I can breed with my wife and make more helpers for the farm, and when they get old enough I won't even have to plow the fields. Why bother working? Hell- I could set up traps with garbage to attract gators and then shoot them and eat gator steaks.

I guess the problem with this is, it devolves quickly into a militia, and then I'd attract followers who would think I was god, and I would let them believe it so that they would do my bidding. I dunno... long day at work I guess...

My GF lives off the grid. She's got solar panels, two water systems, wood-fired hot tub, etc. No cult following, though. Just me.

Oh $hit! I'm going to have to redo the alter.

I have the same dream although it involves Hawaii and not S. Fl.

My hermit life would consist of a remote South Pacific island, a few native girls, coconut oil, mangos and homemade rum! After all, What else could I possibly need?

You can always tell the people who have no experience with farming (which represents most of the population these days).

If you try farming, particularly to the point of self-sufficiency, you will soon learn it is the hardest work you'll ever do!

I've often thought that there was a very real appeal to being able to live that sort of existence. I'm thinking somewhere in the mountains. But then reality sets in...

South of Key West, one might find bargain land.

I remember flying low over the desert in Northern Arizona and Nevada, every once in a while I'd see a trailer in the middle of nowhere. Try living out there, maybe that'll work?

Ramm, it's doable, but only do the stuff in the first paragraph... don't let it devolve into the militia thing. That really could ruin it.

Just shoot anyone who tries to devolve your plan.

The kart track is a nice touch... definitely keep that part.

Be sure to have a stopwatch for keeping your lap times, because theoretically, there won't be anyone to race against, right?

Hmm... perhaps some of you are on to something... Hawaii is nice... I like girls and coconut oil... maybe I can make the wife learn to like that too...

Hard work doesn't sound good, so maybe farming won't cut it. I had this really really good idea for a porn site, but i can't share it here cause you bastards would steal it. I'll only say it involves robots.

Dammit... I should be sleeping. Its hard being god
