diff lube weight questions??

looking for some info on gear lubes as the two diff boxes and auto tranny fluids are up next on my new to me 02 wrx "get to know er maintanence" schedule.

the fluids recommended for the front & rear diffs are a 75-90 and an 80-90 wts and i was wondering if i could just go 80-90 in both without concern? i know what the viscosity numbers mean and living in cal i dont get wide swings in temp but is the low end 75 V. 80 a big deal? i am thinking of sweepco from the host if a 80-90 will suffice on both.

thoughts?

With the mention of SWEPCO, this should be moved to the religion forum.

That's fine. Only thing to check is if you need to add some anti-slip additive, or it may built into the fluid you use.

The first number refers to the cold temp viscosity - the second number is what is important, refers to the operating temp viscosity. The problem with SAE designations is trhat there is a range which is pretty wide.

oh ya, to answer you question - yes, you can use 80W90 for both.
