I'm 54 and I use the mug, brush and soap. That's what my Dad did too. I think it's the best, only takes a few seconds. The trick is buying a good quality badger bristle brush (+$40-$50). I'm on my 3rd brush after about 38 years. It's getting harder to find Williams brush soap. Walmart carries it, and I buy half a dozen when I need them. 2-3 last about a year.

Soap in the shower when I shave.

Shaving totally sucks. All the 2/3 blade razors (disposable & fancy) I've tried lasted no more than 3 shaves before they were toast. Ripping vs. shaving. I picked up a travel electric razor at Costco for $29 about a year ago and I'll be damned but it still works very well. Runs on two AA batteries and I am very happy with it.

I guess I'm cheap. The Gillette Trac II blades for my razor seem to be rare legacy items and are priced accordingly, even at Target and Costco ($20 a pack?). Until I find the correct generic blades for a few bucks, I've had to use the existing blade far past the sharpness expiration date.

Thus, painless shaving only works after a hot shower and a 2 minute soak in shaving cream. Then it's fine. Maybe I'll break down and retire the trusty Gillette and use disposables for awhile.

Once upon a time, razors had a single blade, then they sprouted 2, then 3. They're up to 5 now? What, has man's facial hair evolved to the state of Chris Streit's description of his hair follicles to require all those extra cutting edges? Do they last longer? I would guess they would, but maybe at a price.

I'm thinking the folks who sell ink jet printers learned a lesson from Gillette. Sell em a tool at a loss (razor/printer), but price the consumables (blades/ink cartridges) to provide continuous boat payments to management.

Lots of talk about this! Very surprising to me, but I do believe you have found the ideal alternative or possibly even best substitute for shaving cream. I've used conditioner on more than one occasion and absolutely love the results... soft and smooth!

Although the fluffer business demands thorough knowledge of a wide variety of cremes and such, I prefer using a razor. Both for my face an genitals. Naked scrotum agenda. :D

Always in the shower and use shaving cream/gel whatever is in there.

i do enjoy the heated shaving cream and straight razor they use when i get a haircut though. i could get used to that kind of treatment on a daily basis.

I use a Braun electric razor first, before taking a shower to 'soften the skin'

Then in the shower, I use a twin edge razor - the ones that has a little lever you push that squeezes out the cut hair. No soap, no mirror. Rarely do I get any nicks.

Not that I shower with Paul. But my story is a carbon copy of his. I brush my teeth in the shower as well. One stop clean up.

btw magic erasers do a great job cleaning up the shaving mirror after it gets a little too much water staining on it.

If I don't let it go for more than a few days, I shave dry. not much growing now and in only a couple places since the radiation treatments. electric shavers won't cut the mutant grey hairs that started growing several months later.

i only shave every 2 or 3 days... don't have a cro magnon kinda growth going on , and i don't like shaving much...
gel or cream don't matter much to me.. i don't even change the razorblades that often,
but i gotta have the hot shower first, the shower does more for the shave then all the rest does

Full beard here. I just mow the small, thinly-spaced stuff in the cheek and neck areas with the triplehead Norelco.

Hmmm, this thread has me thinking of going back to my old spice mug & brush...a much warmer feeling than foamy or gel from a spray can...but it does use more hot water & takes a bit longer.

Well, the shower is the way to go, but I've yet to find anything that will keep the mirror clear. And that would include RainX. So I have to rub a drop on shampoo on the mirror and shave in a blur. But, like Seahawk, I've been doing this in the shower for many years.

Maybe some day I'll mount a heated 911 side mirror in there.
