Start em out young! Nephew's new BB gun
Because I am officially designated as "Uncle Bad Tim", I felt it was my duty to buy my 4 yr old nephew his first BB gun for his birthday this year. My sister and her husband being avid shooters themselves, were appreciative, but needless to say a few of the relatives were not as impressed.
![]() He instantly fell in love with it! ![]() Daisy's quality has gone down since I was a kid, so before giving it to him, I had to make a real walnut stock to replace the cheapo one it came with. My sister appreciated the fact that I used a piece of walnut from our recently deceased grandfather's woods. I also made a BB trap so that he and his dad could shoot in the basement. The little snot put every bb we shot last night on the paper. ![]() His brother-in-law is a doctor and very safety conscious when it comes to firearms, so my nephew will have safety drilled into him right from the start. While I love my daughters and treated them as tom-boys growing up, I envy all you guys with little boys... so many fun things to teach them! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Very cool! my kids are in their teens but they still have their red ryders. My youngest had his out the other day hunting micro-venison by the trash can. he hit it once but the BB bounced off so he went to get his Beeman, that did the trick.

What is the original stock made out of? Looks like it is wood.

Some kind of cheap wood with basically a painted on varnish. I guess I couldn't expect much more for $19.99, but now it has "great grandpa's" wood on it... makes it bit more "special".

Pretty cool Tim. So he did OK with it? I was thinking age 5 for buying my son his first BB gun. He's already shot a few that belong to his cousin, along with a .22.

Obviously he is not old enough to be turned loose with it, but he knows how to shoot and aim. He is not quite strong enough to cock it yet which is probably a good thing. ![]() ![]()

Well done, Tim. Every young man needs a gun. Guns teach them an awful lot, and certainly not all of it has to do with shooting. Both of my boys got a Chipmunk .22 on their sixth Christmas, and a centerfire rifle on the 12th. Model 70 in 6.5 Swede to the oldest, Ruger #1 in .30-'06 to the youngest. My oldest is coming up on 21, and will receive his first hand gun.

The day after my grandson was born, I ran out and picked up a Red Ryder BB gun. I kept it wrapped up in my safe. I gave it to him on his 7th birthday.

I was given my first BB [slug] gun when i was 8.
I loved that thing! I had to sell empty soda bottles to pay for the ammo. I was going through sooo much! Didn't take long to figure out which bottles were worth coin, & which ones i could shoot! LOL Unfortunately, with the way our gun laws are now, my kids won't get to experience this! Cheers, Col.
