Rome: where Julius Caesar walked & died
Pompeii: 1st Century life frozen in time
Louvre, Paris: – from palace of kings to Palace of Art
Vienne, France: listening to modern jazz in a Roman amphitheater – pinch me, please
Catalonia, Spain: Iberian ruins run into Greek ruins which run into Roman ruins
Alhambra, Granada, Spain: the stunning jewel of the Moors
Hampton Court, England: Henry VIII looms large in every room
Edinburgh, Scotland: walking around the looming castle in the mist listening for the pipers
Stephansdom Church, Vienna: I could almost see the ghost of Mozart
Eger, Hungary: standing on the castle ramparts imagining the hordes of Turks attacking
Great Wall, China: just incredible
Xi’an, China: the eastern end of the silk road with Qin’s mute army

Next up: More Rome & Sicily . . .

Trinity site a few times.
Daily past the building where much of the trinity and Nagasaki devices were assembled. It's a hantavirus and plague infested quanset hut that's on the national historic register. May one day be part of a nationwide Project Y historical park.

Dealey Plaza aka Texas School Book Depository in Dallas, where LHO fired from the 6th floor and bumped off JFK. You can stand just to the right of the window where he took his shots.

After being in the exact spots no question in my mind that there was another shooter besides LHO. The whole area (grassy knoll, bridge, etc.) is a lot smaller than it looks on TV.

When I went to the Grand Canyon as a kid, it was a trip specifically for that, I just happened to be in Ft Robinson for a family reunion. I was not even thinking about Crazy Horse until I was standing there. Sort to the tip of the spear for bad things this country has done from my perspective. The irony of my being their for a family reunion made it very striking for me.

That was how the trip to the book depository museum was too, was on my way someplace and we stopped to have lunch, ended up there. I looked out that window and thought how easy it would be to make that series of shots myself.

Never been to Europe, The USS Arizona struck me, but not as profoundly.

I lived in Dallas until I was 11 and don't remember ever going there until I went back to visit when I was 25. I also can't believe one guy did that from that window. Even stranger for me was that when I was there, I saw this woman who looked like a tour guide standing on the corner there, sort of lecturing a bunch of folks about 11/22/63. Turns out she was a neighbor of ours from NJ, who had left TX 15 yrs. or so earler for NJ with her hubby, who left her a few years later. From the looks of it, she was really down on her luck, once a well-off socialite and now giving tours of the TX Schoolbook Depository. Very weird day. Then I went to see Rush play that night.

I've been to many places of historical significance. I'd say the spot in Sarajevo where the shot was fired that got WWI started. Not the prettiest site; but significant for sure.

Haven't seen Europe/Asia/Middle east yet but hope to some day.

But have been:

Washington D.C. - most significant was Arlington National Cemetery (need I say more?) - Lincoln memorial - stayed in Alexandria, that was a trip, ate at a Pub where President Washington used to meet with the founding fathers, saw the porch where he would stand to review the troops.

Philadelphia - Independence hall - the bell - Pat's (shame that Independence national park is not prominently advertised on any of Philly's websires)

Boston - Everywhere.

Very cool. Also Anasazi ruins north of Flagstaff. Stumbled over some native american or amerind etc artifacts while on the northwest coast, but never really village sites.
