Yes, Dave. I'm in the old drive trying to open the "User" folder. "Administrator" and "All User" folders are accessible, but not "User" where all my data resides.

1. Launch Windows Explorer or My Computer.
2. Click on the Tools at the menu bar, then click on Folder Options.
3. Click on View tab.
4. In the Advanced Settings section at the bottom of the list, uncheck and unselect (clear the tick) on the “Use simple file sharing (Recommended)” check box.
5. Click OK.

Do the above, then see if the security tab shows up, if so, try my other instructions.

I was able to do the above and was able to open the User folder, but sub-folders are locked and I can't use the same method to unlock them.

That's what I thought. Get back to the security tab as before....

At the bottom right, you will see a tab called Advanced, click it...

Add Everyone again... Check Full Control, wait then see if you get access...

No, only on the "User" folder. It should then apply to all sub folders/files.

I must be doing something wrong. It did not apply to sub folders and files.

Is the user "System" there? Also after you added Everyone, what did it say above Full Control? Make sure it says Apply onto: This Folder, subfolders, files.

In the Advance window of the security setting, it lists full permission for everyone (System is there too). "Inherited From" = not inherited. "Apply to" = "This folder, subfolder and files"

I figured that was right...but no entry to sub folders unless I manually unlock them like earlier.

Thanks for all your help, Dave. I hope you feel better.

YES! Yes!

It worked, Dave. It took a while to change ownership of all the files, but it worked!

Thank you so much for your time and patience. If there's anything I can do for you....don't be afraid to ask.

You are very welcome. I always forget about this issue. It doesn't always come up.
