Remember SUVs?
Local TV news says U.S. sales of the behemoths have spiked because of recent nationwide low gas prices.
For ex., gas is on average $1.82 in L.A. That's cheap!

True, true... A young girl ran a stop sign on purpose while on the phone the other day. It was a a 4 way and I had stopped and started to proceed, she makes a fast left from my right. I flip her off as she goes by and I think she was about to do the same, but one hand was on the wheel, the other on the phone.

I was in Costco a week ago getting my wife's car filled with gas & thinking about the difference in the amount to fill the tank then and a couple of months before. As I looked around, I realized two thirds of the vehicles there were SUV's. I remember thinking to myself that they've already forgotten.

There was a guy on here a while back saying that people still want SUVs... [cough] [cough]
The SUV is dead...long live the SUV. ![]() I hear Americans are going to give up fast food, beer and Nascar next.

I filled up my AMG with premium for $26. $26! It was even empty.
My wife an I just had this discussion about SUVs yesterday. She wondered if people would start buying them thanks to the cheap gas. I told her that the damage was already done, and that $4/gal gas was still fresh in the minds of Americans. Looks like I overestimated our common sense.

I'm seeing more H2's wedged into spots in parking garages down this way.
Oh well, it was a good run while it lasted.

![]() I'm one of the dumbasses driving the SUV (Yukon XL). Fact is I bought it for hauling things (boats, trailers, 5 gallon water bottles, 400 lb Bouviere Des Flandres) , but it's big, comfortable, and safe so we like it for normal use when gas is cheap. I just tossed on some winter tires and it's unstoppable, fun even, in the 12 FRIGGIN inches of snow we've had so far! ![]() That joy is only bested by filling up the new Honda Fit. Fifteen bucks and good to go! I'll burn gas now while it's cheap, but I'm covered for the inevitable increase. |

Now THAT is stupid. I'll make my Yukon XL last to do what t does, and it's still worthless (maybe not??) so selling it isn't an option, but I will never buy a car that gets under 30 mpg again. |

Escalades are breeding in my neighborhood, never more than 1 person in it, usually a pee head soccer Mom driving aimlessly.

They'll whine the loudest when gas prices hit $4 again in the spring... We have a large dodge hemi to tow the trailer. I don't complain though, I know it's expensive and accept that. The cost of buying a fuel efficient car though as the daily also isn't worth it. I figured with our average miles per week it would take 5 years to pay off another car purchase.

Can we have one thread where we don't talk about Obama?
![]() Some of you people need to lighten up- sheesh. Economy cars suck- period. You can't haul friends and your dog in one up to the mountains. You can't tow a trailer or a boat, or bring home new furniture. The SUV signifies everything that is great about America. It matters not the vehicle, but the driver in it when it comes to fuel economy, safety, etc. I see a lot of generalizations about SUV drivers- why aren't you guys complaining about black people? When I go into town I see them driving 76 Chevys with 24 inch wheels- what kind of fuel economy are they getting? They never upgrade the brakes either so you know they can't stop. Imagine the pollution too! ![]() You don't complain and stereotype because you aren't jealous of them. Shoot- I just saw on Top Gear last night an M3 followed a Prius around the track for 10 laps. The M3 got 2 mpg BETTER than the Prius. Some of you guys need to get with the program- if you want a world where other people can judge you and determine how large of a car you NEED, the next step is to tell you how fast (slow) a car you NEED. If Lamborghinis were cheap we'd all be driving them and they get 12 mpg so suck it. |

I'm sorry, but that was a terrible analogy, and was a joke on the show.
