Genius move by Ford

Marketing move of the Century. Ford tags along with all the other losers begging for money to stay in business making it look really bad then says “Stuff it” We don’t need your money, were just fine. Well, who are you going to buy a car from now? The two losers left standing or the one back building cars.

None of 'em! Was Ford "lying through their teeth" begging for taxpayers' money a few weeks ago .?

Real genius would be lowering the prices so the vehicles are more affordable.

Exactly what I meant. They have sold *zillions* and will continue to do so.
My F-350 diesel dominates...

Anyone have a link to this news?

It does appear that Ford is the strongest of the US automakers, from a financial point...

There is a strong likelihood that most of the parts already are...

I'm guessing.

What makes a new F350 diesel cost $45k plus?

Neither can my daughter...she turns 16 in a week and a half and will be driving soon. I asked if she wanted to drive my 325i or the F150 on a regular basis.

F150.

That's my girl

My F350 was $32k back in '01.

Have things changed that much?

near the bottom

but Ford always said they did not need a loan or bailout, they were/are looking for a backup (standby credit) in case GM or Chrysler failed which would drive many of the parts makers out of biz.

Ford is in the best shape of the three by far - think its silly to make Mullay work for $1 - if not for his action to raise $30BN shortly after he took over (about 2 yrs ago) Ford would be gone by now, and none of the past decades' mistakes were his.

If Ford doesn't take on the loan, it would be a very bold move on their part.

If Mullay indeed does work for $1 in 2009 (and doesn't get any other perks like stock options and bonuses) then that would show the workers at Ford that he is serious about his plans. So I believe that the $1 salary thing is more for the Ford workers and to boost morale within the company than anything else.

I own a Ford Explorer Sport Trac - it is my daily driver and tow vehicle. If Ford actually goes through with such plans, I would not hesitate to buy another Ford. To tow my next Porsche to the track!

If my wife's new job comes through, I'll be looking at the entire Ford line up. She love GM, but it might be hard to follow them down. The UAW says that their salaries and benefits only add about 10% to the cost of a car is so bull**** its funny. To hell with the UAW.

Perhaps we should restructure the UAW contracts, such that from now on, they only receive 10% of the selling price the car/truck. See if they are willing to take that offer. However they wish to divy up the money amongst themselves (wages, healthcare, retirement savings, retirement healthcare, etc.) is their business. Car sells for $30K, then the UAW gets $3K. UAW then administers all pay/benefits to UAW members. I wonder how that math works out, compared to the deal they've got going, now.

Honda, Toyota and BMW has factories in the States, but I don't see them asking for monies for a bailout. Why? They are all non union shop.
