I am going for a full physical next month. Yesterday was my first visit and they said they don't do physicals for first visits.

My lifestyle changes dropped my liver enzymes to normal levels, stopped my insomnia (related to the elevated liver enzymes), lost 22 lbs and I feel great. All I gave up was alcohol, red meat (only eat chicken or fish once or twice a week). My cholesterol is 207 down from almost 400 when I ate meat.

I can vividly remember my mom's 31st birthday, (in 1962), she's 77 now. I was 3 years old and I started crying when she told me how old she was because I thought that she was going to die soon.

That's typical from what I've seen.

Keep an eye on your BP and keep it under control.

This is what I can't figure out. When I drank like a fish, my BP was always good, around 120/70 or so. When I was a lean, mean running machine and got my best marathon time, the gov't. BMI chart said I was near obese. My knees went bad after my seventh marathon and so I've been lifting a lot for the last several years, while still doing a lot of treadmill work. I hit the gym 4-5x per week and don't go there to socialize or rest on the machines. I have been drinking very little in the last month or two, working out a lot, eat fish three nights a week, steamed greens about five nights a week, only use 1% milk, Smart Balance butter subst. Sure, I have dessert now and then and make big breakfasts on the weekends. But my weight and BP are not in good territory now. I'm starting to think I'd be better off reverting to some more bad habits. What the hell is going on? Fortunately, I'm about to spend 3+ weeks in China, where I'll be eating super healthy and walking many miles every day, but also smoking and drinking like I'm on vacation.

Honestly, after reading that I'd say you probably have a healthier lifestyle than 3/4 of Americans these days. That's something to be proud of, not many people care much about their diet these days it seems.

One piece of advice I could give you would be to count your calories daily, every single thing you eat, for a week. See how many you're eating in a day. Might help some.

I know what you mean about China though, I just spent 5 weeks in Korea, and I ate tons of healthy natural food and walked everywhere... but I ended up smoking nearly every day, and drank a few times too. Well, at least their cigs are extremely weak.

Mine just turned 54. I'm not old by any means, but this last birthday it suddenly dawned on me that I'm actually aging. Scary stuff indeed. Makes me want to cherish everything I do, though.
