End of year email from Pelican
Anyone else get this? Seems I haven't bought anything from Pelican in all of 2008.
Will have to put an order together for January.Dear Customer, As another year comes to a close, we checked our records and realized that we have not heard from you all year, and that causes us concern. If we have done something to send you away or offered service less than you were expecting, we want to apologize, and see if there is some way that we can make amends. Our customers are very important to us here at Pelican Parts, and perhaps there is something that you wish to tell us, that you have hesitated in doing so. Please consider this an open invitation to share whatever is on your mind, that would have caused you to stop using Pelican parts as your source for parts. We have, however, noticed that you spend a good deal of time in the Off Topic section of the Pelican Parts forums. While we encourage the use of the forums to share your passion and expand your knowledge on Porsches, we think you might be spending way too much time on Off Topic. In fact, maybe, just maybe, if you spent less time on OT and more time focusing on your company, you might be more successful and earn more money, and be able to buy some parts from us on a more regular basis. What a loser. Oh, and you are never going to get that 69S on the road. Just give up now. You can direct your comments to our Director of Customer Service, Judy Muller at judy@pelicanparts.com As our way of saying „Welcome Back‰ to you we would like to make you this offer. Place an order with us between now and the end of January for $100.00 or more and we will take 5% off your order, All you need to do is put the coupon code in the WebCertificate section of your order, and we will automatically deduct 5% from your order. As always, we offer FREE shipping on 85% of the items in our catalog ˆ that will continue to apply as well. We also wanted you to know that we not only sell parts for your Porsche & BMW, but Mercedes, Volvo, Volkswagen, Saab, Mini and Audi parts as well. We look forward to hearing from you, and serving you once again. Our best regards for a Happy and Healthy New Year. Wayne Dempsey CEO, Pelican Parts Inc. Pelican Parts Inc. 120 Standard Street El Segundo, CA 90245 1-888-280-7799

I understand a select few OT denizens received invitations to the holiday party in Wayne's swimming pool. Bring your own shackles.

All joking aside, it's details like that email that set PP apart in the online parts business.
When I placed my last order, I got the standard follow-up email 2 weeks later asking me if everything went OK. I replied that the parts hadn't arrived yet, but that was to be expected with USPS ground, Canada customs, etc. Basically, no worries, I assume they'll arrive shortly. Within an hour, I received another email stating that a ticket had been opened and they were tracking my shipment. Turns out it was sitting at the post office and Canada Post had forgotten to give me a delivery slip, but just the same, the added attention by PP was noteworthy. As someone who works in online sales & service, I can honestly say I've never dealt with a company that delivers such careful and consistent online order support. Really impressive. Shaun's email underlines a real dedication by PP. If only he got off PPOT, and worked harder to support the business, instead of wasting time and bandwidth. Such a shame, I think he's to blame for much of the current financial crisis.

I think there should be a button at the top of PPOT for those of us who consume more bandwidth than Porsche parts and would be willing to send in a few dollars to support the habit.

What Jake said. You want to succeed, kill your clients with service. You want to make it painful not to use you, (in a good way). I learned this as a consultant. I had studio clients who had to do annual environmental reports. I copied my accountants approach in that I sent them a prepaid envelope to the agency, a few "sign here" stickers, their copies of the documents. It made a big difference.

A few months back, I completed the post purchase survey and mentioned that i didn't get any of the PP stickers with my order. Judy sent me a package full of them.
A nice touch.

I buy quite a few parts each year from our host (I'm on year 7 now) and I've always been happy with the value I've received. I don't know how much I'll be buying next year as things don't look good here... (MI)
