what was your favorite car toy when you were a kid?

Growing up in the '70's, Hot Wheels ruled my world. Had those orange tracks laying all over the house. Of course I also had every Matchbox and Corgi ever made.

Another fave of mine was SSP's they were a car with a single wheel in the middle of them, that you stuck a handle in , sort of like a pull start. Had all different ones. The best was the Demolition Derby set. You could slam them together they would bust apart and you just snapped them back together. Try that with the crap they make now.
There was one toy car, I cant remember the name of it, it was electric, and you slipped a thing that looked like an old IBM punch card into it, and it would drive around in a pattern specific to that card.
Had another thing that you made you own cars out of some kind of clay substance in a heated mold. That was pretty cool.

Tonka trucks where abundant in my home too, I still have a whole bunch of my originals..
Of course tons of A/FX racing sets too.

I had a pedal car that i loved. I "drove" that thing all over the neighborhood. It looked similar to a Meyers Manx.

It looked like this, same color too. This one is pretty beat up though. Hell, this could be my old one.

Porsche pedal-type car was good, but my Power Wheels jeep was probably my favorite.

Hot Wheels of course, and Matchbox.

But the funnest was a plastic, snap-together car that would explode when it collided with something. Then it snapped back together.

Explosives. Seriously. I had unlimited access to blasting powder, pipe, wax and fuse. Man did we have fun. And I still have all my fingers!

I once filled a cable-free Cox model plane with a gasoline/gunpowder charge and a two-minute jet-X fuse. Short but memorable flight. What fun!

A yearly event at my house every 4th of July was blowing up all of the model cars I had made over the last year.

I had a bunch of bigwheels which I typically destroyed by skidding with the front wheel and jumping off of my porch. I had multiple tubs of Hot Wheels, lots of Micro Machines, and all the associated buildings, tracks, etc. I had slot cars that I typically burned up, and radio control cars that I would destroy by stripping the gearbox gears (they do neat 180s). I think I see a theme here......

I had just about every toy mentioned here.

AFX cars were fun. I had no idea what those 917/962 cars were though. I liked the '55 Chevy.

I had lots of the Big Tonka toys and Matchbox/HotWheels when I was 3 and 4. I don't think I kept up with the Tonka Toys, but I did keep getting matchbox for many years. I think I was still playing with Matchbox until I was 13/14. And I still have them all (mom saved everything).

I also remember having some of the evel knievel toys when I was ~3-4.

You could make any other toy with them.
