				Day the Earth Stood Stiill

Remake with Neo, not original with Renne, I am betting on special effects extravaganza, like War of the Worlds. What do y'all think? Always liked the original one

If it is like the WOTW remake, it will suck donkey balls!!! I to like the original one, and from the previews I've seen, this is nothing like it, just another hollywood flick whoring off the name of a classic flick

Byron is probably right, but I'm going to see it. I saw the original when it came out, & rented it several years ago to see it again. I'd like to compare the two.

Duuuudes! It's got Jennifer Connelly in it! What more do you need? I liked both versions of War of the Worlds. I could've done without Tom Scientology in the lead. This new version of TDTESS will be similarly "updated" and CGI-ified, but I will probably like it, too. Keanu will probably do a decent job as Klaatu, but I can think of other people I'd rather see in the role. But hey... think of it like electronic ignition and fuel injection... different than what came before, but not necessarily worse. And with Jennifer Connelly!

I heard the movie has a "Green" message. I.E., humans can't exist without Earth, but Earth can exist w/o humans, so bye-bye humans. Pleeeaaaseee... The "end the violence" of the original movie still works, so why muck it up? IMO, Hollywood covered "Green" with The Day After Tomorrow.

Even though I read a very negative review of it, I had to see it, being a big fan of the original. Basically, it's a worthy DVD rental, but I wouldn't recommend going to a theater for it. Overall, I'd say the casting was weak. It would have been better with unknowns, IMO. Special effects were decent, not overdone. The space ship was cool, but seemed a bit of a ripoff of the eggs in the Alien movies. Gort was decent and true to the original in most ways, but was a ripoff of Sandman from Spiderman. He seemed a little fake as well, and the Sandman thing seemed too unbelievable. They should have done more interesting stuff with him. The storyline started off well, but quickly the wheels came off. Klaatu developing on-the-spot ala Jeff Bridges in Starman made no sense at all. Klaatu decides after he arrives here and talks to a fellow alien what to do with the earth, then changing his mind after a little more interaction with Jennifer Connelly and her step-son was weak. Then he just fights his way back to his ship and leaves. He never communicated his mission with the real authorities. Having Kathy Bates being as far as he gets was lame. The story wasn't thought out at all or even finished. The green theme was a worthy update to the cold war theme of the original and there were some cool concepts, but overall the movie wasn't worthy of its title or its heritage.

I recently settled down to watch this, thinking it was the original 60's effort which I quite liked actually in a nihilistic sort of way, What I got for about Twenty minutes was an Australian version of either Home & away/Neighbours cast offs who might have just as easilly been mourning their loss of the ashes at cricket, than Mankinds downfall at the hands of the carbon bomb as it was originally described in the film

But it is different than the guys that pay to see the movie in the theater. Stealing is stealing.

Honestly these big greedy movie companies arent going to notice the fact that I didnt pay 6bucks to go see their movie. Oh and its a 15mile drive for me to the nearest theater so I am being green by not going to the theater. Ha beat the hollywood types at their own games.

Wow. I would be ashamed if I was your parent. Your rationalization of this theft is unbelievable.
