Marley and Me

I know from previous threads that there are lot of dog-loving Pelicans here.

I saw Marley and Me today. Wow. What a great movie. Warning, though: Bring a hankie or a box of tissues. When I got home I gave Teddy a big hug. Here he is with his favorite chicken, Buffy the buff orpington.

Saw it today.

Wife knew the basic plot and only told me after we sat down.

It's the Old Yellow for our kids generation.

Good movie.

My 6 year old and I read "Bad dog marley"on a frequent basis. (the dog/story the movie was based on). We waited for a long time for the movie to come out and went to the website regularily. We have two labs, a yellow mom and her black son so this was a big deal for us.

We just got back from the movie a couple hours ago, not what I expected from the trailers and the happy ending in the book. I missed the last few minutes as my son did not want to watch the ending...... got filled in by my girlfriend.....

Don't get me wrong, it is a great movie, but not one for the younger set, especially if you have a dog. We were waiting outside the theatre door when it ended and there were not too many dry eyes leaving.

dreading the day when it comes.....

Cheers

Saw it last night with the fam. I gave my wife a yellow lab for her birthday a few years ago so she really wanted to see it.

I thought it was a good movie, but not great. Those sweater puppies were nice though

I'm not interested in seeing a movie with a bad ending for a dog, even if the rest of the movie is good.

My wife took me to see it last night. I read the book a couple of years ago and really liked it. Their stories are similar to mine (or any other dog owners). As with any movie, there were missing pieces from the book, but all in all it was a pretty good movie.

Stressful movie, the wife and I hated it.

Bad dog which should have been given to the pound, dies in the end and everyone cries.

I checked the critic's opinions, and about half loved it, and half hated it. No in between.

Those who loved the movie did so because it showed the importance of the love and loyalty of a dog, and the movie was a tribute to that.

Those who hated it showed a lack of feelings, or they were mad that the movie made a shameless attempt to jerk a few tears. What they didn't get was that the sad ending was in the movie (and the book) because such an ending is an integral part of dog companionship.

We are supposed to out-live our dogs, and are likely to all go through such a process. I felt that the haters of the movie just didn't get it.

Kach,
the real problem is OWNERS,

Owners need to first educate and THINK about what they want /versus what they can handle.
myself included.
Have had dogs all my life..
Rotts and Shepherds...then came SAM (Lab.)
Marley is /was nothing compared to my Sam.

Labs are great dogs..if you /they survive the puppy stage.
Training is the key..

Also with just about every 4-letter word except the "F-bomb" and some bedroom romps, this might not be the movie you want to take the younger kids to see it.

Thanks for the heads up. We were thinking about taking our 8 year old to it. Think the wife and I will just wait for it to come out on dvd now.

I agree.

I live in a college town, many of the college kids get puppies, you can see them walking them around. Then they have to move, or have mid-terms and the shelter gets flooded with the unwanted and untrained not yet year old dogs. It's a shame and a cycle which repeats every year. My own older sisters did this, but they ditched their wreck of dogs back on the home where I was. Guess who had to live with the all love and no discipline dogs?

Growing up, we always had a dog. The dogs were a good dogs because they had some structure (conditional love) and no outside training was needed. We took in several strays and made them our own, they acted bad at first but caught on after a while and learned what was expected of them.

I grew up cleaning up the mess bad dogs owners made, I have no soft spot for negligence.
