New resturant in town-not sure i will eat there

The new multi million dollar facility will be called "Jackalopes"
Not sure about you but I would be less inclined to eat at a place whose name reminds me of roadkill and meat of dubious origins.

Multi-million dollar?

I didn't think it took more than a few hundred thousand to open a decent restaurant.

Pretty much a million dollar deal to build out from an empty shell. Add in start up costs and it's a big nut.

The resturant was originally concieved and funded by a guy that is well known in the business and no expence was spared in the project. He spent more than 2.5k on the kitchen alone. He fell ill and his family decided not to open the place as planed and it has been leased to another company and that is the name they chose for thier resturant. The whole project was almost 20 million dollars. The land, the building, the interior, the fixtures, the kitchen with its seperate catering facilities. Even the landscaping and out door patio is like going to Disneyland.

We had a guy demolish and build a new building in Downtown (I mean Uptown) Normal to house his new restaurant, Medici. He spent several million dollars on the two-story brick building with an outdoor patio on the second floor. The tables are some really expensive wood and the decor includes a dead tree that spans both stories. Even though it is packed with college students every night and with the local elite for lunch and dinner every day, it is still hemoraging money from what I gather. It's a really cool place, but even doing the maximum business possible it is still experiencing an operating loss. It's too bad really, I like the place.

we had a local place like that - guys spent about 12 million to open it. Last about 18 to 20 months and then packed it in. No way in hell would I drop that kinda coin on a resturant as they are so prone to failing

Maybe a Chop Suey Joint or Taqueria, but even a McDonald is gonna cost you BIG BUCKS.

The design and interior finishes on any decent restaurants or theme restaurants is gonna cost more than than a couple of hundred thousand dollars.

Yeah, Medici has been open about 6 months. I think it last about 18-24 months. At some point, the bank that finances their receivables has to pull the plug when the numbers have been sour for too long. And I don't think this guy will be able to get the governor to bully the bank into helping him.

What does this have to do with Jackalope's? It seems to me that super high-end restaurants only succeed in places like New York and Las Vegas, and even they only tend to last a few years before the "in" crowd moves on.

The guy that built this place is uber rich from being in the resturant business. On one of his other projects he had a bronz pig built that was almost 5000 lbs and cost over $20,000.00 to put in front of his BBQ resturant. He also bought a life sized wooden replica of a Harley Hog to put in the place, it cost over $30,000.00

Jackalope are found in Wyoming and Montana. They are the offspring of very large western jackrabbits and smaller antalope. When I worked at Jackson Lake Lodge in the 70's you would see one now and then. Scarey little critters.

Well, I'm sure the price/lb. for quality Jackalope meat is pretty pricey as well!

Be sure to order your Jackolope burgers well done or you won't be able to keep them down.

This guy doesn't need to launder money. He sold his original chain several years ago for over 50 million dollars and now spends his time doing just what he wants. He even had a heliport at a couple of his places so he could fly in and out in his private chopper.

Thats what I thought when I first heard of this project. The guy is over 80 years old and I think he knew it was his last deal and just wanted to do everything he always wanted to do, damn the torpedos and just keep writing those checks.

I thought jackalope were just jack rabbits with antlers. Don't see how a female jackrabbit would stand long enough for a male antalope to get off, or how a male rabbit can get off on a female antelope.
