Are you stocking up on food/water/supplies?

Wow, Motorola, JP Morgan, Citi, Nortel all look to be in serious trouble (among others). At what point do we need to really start preparing for the worst? Seems that it won't take too much more to really mess things up for a long time.

Are any of you stockpiling stuff (beside ammo ) in preparation?

Anyone doing the self-sustaining thing?

I'm starting to worry more than usual Seems like an all out financial collapse could be reality....

Thoughts?

No.

I'm stocking up on ammo, so I can have first pick of the food, water, supplies that others have stocked up on.

No but if you would like to stimulate the economy by stocking up, go for it.

What? You don't think those who stockpile the supplies don't also stockpile ammo?

If going to stockpile, make it tradable things like insulin and baby formula. Then you can exploit the vulnerable and desperate.

I used to be diligent about stockpiling water food gasoline when lived in CA. Now I've gotten lazy.

Myself and a friend have developed a contingency plan as we have small feelings about the near future. Things just seem to be getting worse and worse, not just financially. There's been many earthquakes near Yellowstone, more than there normally are. I didn't know much about that place until I read up on all of it recently. If that area decides it's time to go, we're hitting the gas station as soon as possible, filling every container we have, and then dropping everything and leaving the country, by plane if allowed, of if the airports are closed then by car to Mexico and then on to South America...

Sounds harsh but I've been thinking about it more and more...

Glad I'm not alone in having a friend who's paranoid about the coming doom. I guess there's bound to be one in every bunch. I keep extra water and food on hand at all times. If things get really bad I can break out the backpacking gear and freeze dried food.....mmmm yummy!

Food is produced a whole lot easier and more effectively than it was in the time of the Great Depression. I doubt we'd run out easily.

If you buy bulk, camp and hunt, you have an emergency kit at your house at all times.
- Buy bulk: Large amounts of food at home.
- Camp: Water treatment equipment, propane / gas stove and lantern, emergency shelter.
- Hunt: Guns, ammo and the training to kill and process any animal into food.

I am not worried. We may have to lower our standard of living by a couple of notches. Society will not fall apart, neither will anyone starve ...

George

Finishing up building a house designed to be easy to heat and cool. Built with easy access to plenty of firewood and good hunting and fishing on and off the property. A supply of potable water physically higher than the house with a 1000 gallon holding tank and an on-site septic, a mature orchard, and this summer I'm developing the gardens (although the growing season is rather short). Plus I'm getting a colony of honeybees, and starting a brood of laying hens.

But this is because it is what I want to do, not in preparation for any collapse. And Legion, should things get so rough that others need what I have, you've got an invitation to share, unless living on the dole runs counter to your ideology.

Thank you. I already have a contingency plan to move to a friend's family farm in Iowa (I'm in charge of defending the farm), but one can't have too many contingency plans.

See, it's not a "dole" if people voluntarily give to it and have the option of opting out. In that case, it's called "charity" and I have no problem with it (and give quite a bit to myself). When the giving is compulsory and the giver can't influence how the money is spent (and I consider choosing not to give a method of exerting such influence), then I have major problems with it.
