Don't be deceived by the CA propaganda pics. It has snowed (made the ground all white for about 20 min.) TWICE since I've lived in S.D. County! And this was in S.D. proper and some of the coastal burghs (which have to be also constantly on the alert for Tsunamis).
Snow is a serious threat and affects the back country every winter to the extent that skis must be used in the mountains that loom ominously, clearly visible from the coast (on the rare days that smog lets you see more than a half mile).
If that's not bad enough, it's a freakin' desert (avg. less than 10" annual rainfall)!
And then Mf Nature plays a dirty trick every couple of years and makes it rain a lot and every freakin' thing grows and gets all green and pretty.
Good, right? Yeah - then the desert sun dries it all into parchment, everything turns dead brown, lightening strikes and the whole freakin' county goes up in flames!
And the devastating, dehydrating Santa Ana winds frequently blow in from the desert on top of that, making the suicide and crime rates sky rocket.
Did I mention the earthquakes?
Maybe the WORST thing is the toll this miserable frying pan takes on Porsches, whose merciless owners thoughtlessly wear them out by driving them, year after year, all year long instead of letting them rest for the winter.
Ooooooh, I wouldn't move here if I were you!
