They had a brief run called the Camry CE that came with a stick.
The email I got from the seller earlier today said it got a complete trans rebuild abotu 10k miles ago. He wanted to just do a couple synchros, but the rebuild kits only came in whole sets, so he had the entire thing done, and supposedly a new clutch at the same time. I'm waiting to see what he sends me later as far as pics. The body supposedly has a few dings, and the front bumper is pushed in a bit, so I gotta see that. I think half of my interest comes just from his ability to speak coherently. Sucks that it isn't local- if I drive to Tampa, I'd be going to buy it, not to check it out. Thats a 4 hour drive. I'll post a new thread about this car when I get complete data. Last edited by rammstein; 01-21-2009 at 08:01 PM.. |

A modified economy car is still, at it's core, an economy car. I bet it torque-steers like crazy. Great sleeper, but I bet it's a pig to autoX.
Have we suggested an RX-7 (minus rice tach)? Cheap, cheap parts, great handling, lots of mods available. I missed a turbo 2 locally with 100k for $2500, it sold too damn quick.

RX7 has no back seat. The hatch area would be too tight for our fur kid (dog).
I've been in and driven Jim's RX7, and I can tell you that the hatch area is really tight, AND that it was a BLAST to drive. |

Heh heh. This thing really sounds like "the one." I'm betting it's gonna be a ton of fun. BTW, that Scirocco you were looking at was about an hour and a half from me... I almost volunteered to go look at it for you, but it wasn't a good time for throwing away a Saturday, and it woulda cost you more than you were offering... what was it again? An 18-pack of PBR? ![]() If this Camry doesn't pan out and the Scirocco is still around, PM me... you never know.

I think the camry is great for a sleeper but I'm not big on it mostly because I'm a driving a slow car fast than a fast car slow kinda guy.

I'd have to take it to a shop to have the A/C rehabbed, and there is some kind of leak where the axle connects to the trans. Its a slow leak, and could probably be treated by ignoring it for awhile, but according to Mr. Notfarnow, who knows these cars very well, its a PITA fix, and having a shop do it might prove costly. Finally, there is the battery booster in the back seat that the seller never explained. I dunno though, its a damn fine looking car, and I could probably bargain it down a bit too. Love the white, and that interior is immaculate.
Maybe I'll have to utilize Heel N Toe on this one. I mean, if someone took a good hard look at this car and said that there were no other issues than those highighted by the seller, and I could get it for $3500, that leaves enough to at least get the whole A/C system replaced. Then I could shop for some Konis. hmm.... it sure is a sexy car.... |
