How about the CTS-V? Sort of like a G8 GXP, but a more powerful engine wrapped in a four door.

PS: The Caddilac CTS(Catera) is a REALLY nice car. They used to be re-badged German Opel Omegas(the model i have is), i'm not sure if the newer ones still are. At any rate, i love mine. RWD, ram-air V-6, FANTASTIC handling, luxury everything, and decent on gas to boot.

By "two seat roadster" I meant the solstice. Both it and a Z-06 were in the showroom. Sorry if I was confusing. Should have been more clear.

New CTS are German made - or some part of them are German made - the chassis, I believe. They, with the G8, make another case against the BMW M5, which is really good to see out of an American car manufacturer.

The CTS does almost everything as well as the BMW or MB.

The one i have (A 1999 model) is 100% german made. And yep, it is every bit the car that a same year BMW 3 series or Mercedes C class is...but about 1/5th the price (again, talking about my model).

I really like mine.

The new ones are much sharper looking too.

There's a CTS forum much like this forum that has a very large following. A lot of people really like the CTS. I think the newest one is one of the best looking sedans around. Tons nicer than the Mercedes C and E series for instance.

Sure wish mine was that fast, lol. I think mine has like 220hp or something. It's quite peppy, but definitely not 'fast'. The new ones have way, way more power though. And as i said, the handling is just unbelievable.

You should know what that means by now. Go drive at a Challenger. Go drive a Mustang. Go drive a Caddy V-Spec. Hell, go look at a used Mercury Marauder, or buy some old American Iron. And if it doesn't do anything for you in a year or so, big deal. Move on to somehting else. It's just a car.

Just do something, man and enjoy life will ya?!

Really man, WTF is your deal? For someone with amassed "screw you" money, you really seem to give a damn what others think about you and something as trivialas your choice of car.

Whatever happened to you at some PCA gathering must have left you emotionally scarred. You need a thinker skin or something. I can't tell if the car and your relationship were somehow tied, but you still have Cindy, so what's your problem? Grow a sack and get on with your life. Maybe get a small car with no space for all your baggage.

I don't have enough money or garage space for all the cars I'd like to own. I wish I had this problem!

Back to the main topic. Guys, if you haven't driven a G-8, do so...Like others here, I was impressed. A very good performance sedan, one I think is competitive with any similar car produced anywhere on the planet. Comfortable seating for 5, the front seats give good lateral support, and the fully independent suspension is top notch...even in stock form.

I like the stealth styling...Gee, it's "only" a Pontiac.

The one I drove was a charcoal gray GT, and with the exception of the 19 inch wheels and the hood scoops looked very non-descript tho decidely modern. I'm not a fan of slush boxes but the 6 sp automatic was great in manual shift mode. It had remarkable powerband/handling and will spank most sedans and a lot of "sports cars", foreign and domestic. Plus out on the highway, 6th gear means you're loping along at 80 mph at about 1800 rpm.

Sticker was $34K+ but my salesman buddy indicated I could get into it for around $28K+ TTT. A lot of car for the money...literally a domestic M5.

Motorhead Steve lives up the street. His dad was a Dodge dealer back in the 1960s. The guy knows option codes from the muscle car era like they're his kids' names and has a tattoo on his left forearm that reads "Mopar is Mom." More important, he just bought himself a screaming yellow 2007 Dodge Charger SRT8 Super Bee. We knew he wouldn't hesitate.

"Now?" he asked.

"Now."

"Be there in five."

Ten minutes later we were lined up.

Declining Numbers at an Even Rate
Honestly, we didn't think we had a chance. The 2008 Pontiac G8 GT is powered by a 6.0-liter V8 rated at 361 horsepower at 5,300 rpm and 385 pound-feet of torque at 4,400 rpm. Steve's Mopar, a virtual twin to the one we tested a few months ago, is packing a 6.1-liter V8 pumping 425 hp and 420 lb-ft of torque.

We clicked off the Pontiac's traction control with the clearly marked button ahead of its shifter and brake-torqued the big V8 to 2,000 rpm. To our right we could hear Steve do the same. On the count of three we went for it.

Both cars left clean, with just a turn or two of tire slip. Then Steve pulled a fender on us. No surprise considering his Bee's torque advantage. But that's all he had. Past 60 mph the Mopar was still just a fender ahead. The Pontiac's six-speed automatic clicked off clean, crisp gearchanges just before its 6,000-rpm rev limiter, and kept pace with that Charger well past 100 mph.

We raced again. And again. And again. It was like a scene out of Woodward Avenue circa 1969, only we were in sedans, with sunroofs and heated seats, on a deserted, burned-out industrial section of downtown Los Angeles. Every race was a carbon copy of the first.

We lost. But not by much.

Steve wasn't happy. His Mopar had more power, louder paint and many more stickers than the G8 GT. It also costs more than the Pontiac, which carries a base price of $29,995 and tops out at $32,745 with our red car's sunroof, leather and big wheel and tire option. No, Steve wasn't happy at all.

Took our Mountaineer in for its oil change today, and had a look around:

-- 2008 Mustangs - all V8 5sp, including Bullitt versions are discounted below $25K.
-- 2008 Eddie Bauer Ford Explorer V8 4X4 = $34K before $7K discount. In fact, all 2008 Explorers were discounted $7K.

I don't know if these prices have to do with moving inventory, or because no one is buying due to the economy. Either way, these prices seemed like good deals to me.

The Ford dealership in this small town folded recently...the MOPAR dealership took over the Ford store, the former MOPAR store sits empty. Sad times. In an earlier life, Cindy had a '69 Mustang fastback...does NOT like the new ones. Yep...call me whipped if you must, but this will be a family decision.

Damn, I wish the G-8 had a coupe version.
