My favorite part of that article is "a group of students that rushed officers trying to make an arrest."
Those guys weren't screwing around. ![]() What's the deal with "indiscriminately hurled snowballs?" If you can't put the thing in the strike zone, I say get back in the dorm and watch from the window.

Hell, I'm sure if anyone was apprehended with a slush ball, they're probably off to Gitmo.

I saw another story today about a high school girl's basketball team that beat another team 100-0. They felt so bad later on that they forfeited the win. Excellence is no longer celebrated, it is now shunned.
It wasn't cool to run up the score, but they could have given the other team a simple Balushi-Animal House "sorry" and been done with it. Not give the other team a win.

The team that lost was from a school composed completely of developmentally challenged kids. Severe ADD, etc. They could barely stay on the court for the duration of the game, much less play.

Unbelievable. On so many levels it's hard to even know where to start.

So?
About the basketball game, I mean. If you can't play, for whatever reason, you can't play. Snowball things just stupid. Bring on the zombies.

My prep school's student handbook had a clause that "students have an unalienable right to throw snowballs." Yes, really. But I got tagged by one in 10th grade thrown by a guy who later made it to the Japanese major leagues. His arm was a rocket. I think my leg still hurts from that one.

Snowball fights are a blast but I can tell which people are from the south or places that don't sno
w. A packed ice ball, (all you need is wet snow for this), thrown by a 6'4" college baseball player or "any jock with a good arm can really hurt someone. I'm not kidding. I think Sammy would cry like a little girl after a couple of those to the head. One rule of engagement in a proper snowball fight is no civilian casualties. We were in a steeped battle with neighborhood insurgents in St. Paul once many years ago when the enemy breached a cease fire while my little cousin Sheila Delaney crossed. Someone from the other side threw a ball that either hit or just missed her and her older brother, my cousin, walked across and blasted their biggest guy in the mouth with a glove-less fist. I miss the snow sometimes and I'm so glad that I grew up in it EDIT: Rick beat me to it. |

There is no honor amongst combatants anymore.

Well, when I was a kid, there was honor among snowball warriors. We fought hard, but when it was time to regroup or tend to the wounded, ceasefires were honored.
True story. I was once walking to the dining hall at my prep school in the dark when a snowball from far away grazed my nose. I picked up the very same snowball. actually iceball, and tossed it back to the group of shadows I thought had thrown it. I saw one figure fall down and I ran. A hour later I saw a kid walk into the dining hall with an ice pack on his stitched lip. The infirmary was right nextdoor. They never found me out, but I ran into that kid in a backyard party about 10 yrs. ago in VA and saw him again driving on the Beltway about a year ago.

Thing is, if they or the kid who got hit had somehow found you out, they'd have no justification for being ticked at you... the very thing that happened to them, they had tried to make happen to you.
Cool story.

Here in the south we had pine cone fights. A sharp hard one could take an ear off.

I also had three brothers. The oldest ended up pitching in pro baseball. He was clocked at over 96 mph in COLLEGE at Cal state Fullerton playing for Auggie Gorrido. During high school and his career at CSUF, he never lost a game. IIRC his ERA was less than 1. He ended up playing in 5 different world series in his life, from little league to college. I got tagged too many times by a good ice ball from him, never cried. That wasn't allowed. |

One of the top three dumbest things I did as a kid was hit a tow truck with a snowball. The driver was not amused.
Cops were relentless if you hit their car. They took it personally. I remember hiding in a snowy ditch for an hour as they had the searchlights out. That was fun! |
