I did 75% + travel for many years. My experience included commuting DFW / DTW for a few years, extended projects (3 months at a location) in the same city, multiple cities / week, and international. The long term commuting was the least stressful, but still very hard on the family. Traveling to the same city will let you get into a routine. Being able to leave stuff in NY and travel light will help. The coast to coast travel time and time change will take a toll on your body. Remember this will be as hard on the rest of your family as it will be for you. They will have to pick up the slack for your not being there. Daily communication is key for you and them.
Your company not picking up living expense will add to the stress, don't forget NY will start to tax you for the time you are working there. Will your company help with that. Work out as much with your family in preparation, including how for them to let you know when if it is getting too hard. |
