NNJR consistantly wins for Class 5 (over 2000 members) We won overall last year (Heinmueller Award) Ours is full color, regular magazine size, 50-60 pages.

Cattler 01-24-2009 07:23 AM

I'm in for the club events. My son (12) and I enjoy the rallys--especially seeing all of the cars and meeting other owners. Our region, Potomac, also has some good social and outdoor events--Porsche sponsorship of the Gold Cup horse races is a real plus. These are the things that I'm able to get my wife to come to and enjoy.

GaryR 01-24-2009 07:32 AM

No choice but to renew, I do 6-10 races and 10-15 DE's (wife too) per year. Great group of people in the Connecticut Valley Region..

ghnat 01-24-2009 07:38 AM

I'm in, but I am on the track committee so... Plus we have a great group of folks. There may be some wine & cheese folks, but they don't hang around the track or auto-x so about the only time I see them is at the meetings (not wine and cheese).

jackb911 01-24-2009 07:42 AM

Was a member from 1973-2002...North Florida Region club officer, concours chairman and newsletter editor back in the '70's But nowadays I'm not into DE's, AX's or "wine and cheese" socials. Plus, I have zero interest in the newer Porsches (even after owning a couple of them).

And as others have mentioned, Panorama is a mere shadow of its former self.

1911Guy 01-24-2009 08:14 AM

Nope. Joined for the Concourse events, but the number of cars seems to be dwindling over the past few years. Panorama I found interesting about every 3rd or 4th issue, the rest I just found boring. I did not renew my script to Excellence either. I found it to be "warmed-over" from month to month. There are better automotive magazines out there, and I find 100x more value here on this board - Thank You!

Now, I just drive my SC with a big grin on my face.

GH85Carrera 01-24-2009 08:25 AM

I enjoy my membership. Our local region has many fun events. I have made many good friends from the club. Our region has an autocross every month all year long. I can't ever imagine not being a part of PCA.

Formerly Steve Wilkinson 01-24-2009 08:36 AM

Not me. The region (Hudson Valley) officers are, in my opinion, a bunch of self-involved jerks. I might have re-upped anyway, but with the privatization of Lime Rock, the closest DE tracks are four-hours-away Watkins Glen, and Pocono. The latter is slightly closer but way more boring. The round trip to the Glen used to cost me one speeding ticket per.

fryardds 01-24-2009 03:23 PM

Been a member for a number of years. I like the classifieds in Pano and PCA.org I have found some very nice stuff both places, the latest was my '71S coupe.:)

Our region is pretty small but fairly active. I enjoy showing up every once in awhile with my old cars and listen to the reactions from the older members who now have new cars.;)

super_dave0069 01-24-2009 04:03 PM

I guess it depends on what region. Suncoast PCA is great. I've only been a member since Dec 08 and have already been to 2 events where 100+ cars attended. Both events were catered so I've already gotten my $ worth from free lunches ;) Plus there are some great people to meet. I'm also volunteering for the 48hrs of Seabring and should be able to do a parade lap before the race starts. I'm very happy with PCA so far.

PeterCarrera84 01-24-2009 04:49 PM

!st of all I am a Porsche addict !!!I am due to re new, but I am reluctant, almost all the social events are on saturdays, we work 6 days a week, I think the Suncoast region is mostly into DE's and the newer cars, and I feel its very clickis. I love my car , have no one in the club to share my euphoria with !! Hemmings sports & exotics a super magazine. Exellence is ok also. When I see people clean their car with q tips at the shows/meetings, its a bit too much.!!!........I don't know , Iam bit disapointed.

86911cab 01-24-2009 05:46 PM

I love reading Excellence Mag, but I am not in the PCA.
I really dont know any Porsche owners that well other than an old customer of mine(I was a MATCO Tools distributor) that owns Autometrics in Charleston, SC. He doesnt even know that I own one.

I guess I'm just a loner owner here in the Low country of SC.
I love meeting new people, I guess its time I joined.

crustychief 01-24-2009 05:54 PM

renewed, San Diego region is awesome, we get OCR and Santa Barbara participation in our events. Just did an autocross today!

Rex Karrs 01-24-2009 09:41 PM

Debating whether or not to renew. Local chapter mag is good - lots of handy vendor ads. Haven't attended any events, due to work schedule. I'm not that hot about DEs or AX, either. PCA website wasn't near as informative as this site is. Panorama's underwhelming as well. I guess a lot depends on what your expectations are for what the dues will set you back.

(Excellence magazine has nothing to do with the PCA)

Ummmmm .... Thanks for clearing that up?

I was making a point. I like learning more about the Porsche and its origins. Maybe the PCA would be a good resource. There was also other references about Excellence and other magazines like Hemmings Sports and Exotic Car and Panorama, which are other mags I like to read.

Just read the special issue front to back, great issue as always. I renew for the autoX and the PCA sticker to put on my daily:D. Ive always said I go fast with the porsche club and have fun with the VW club. I havent owned a VW in 4 years but still go to all of the shows and events because the scene is great.

I know Gordon, they are running at least one car at Daytone this weekend. Too bad you aren't still a tool rep, that could come in handy if you need parts for your Porsche:D

You took the words out of my mouth!

Newsboy 01-25-2009 05:06 AM

Where else can you do autocross for $30.00 per session? Our N.E. Region, also has allot of nice events & members.

Sorry - I misunderstood what you were saying...

PeterCarrera84 01-25-2009 07:40 AM

I find this forum the best of the best, regarding Porsche family !! I have learned more since I joined the Pelikan forums............than any club.

sand_man 01-25-2009 09:20 AM

It's in my signature...it just wasn't for me. I'll try again some other time.

LOL! If they did, it's only because it was an all Porsche gathering! In all honesty, it was just one of those weird occaisions of being at a car event, yet not in the company of car guys/gals! They mostly just wanted to stand around and discuss what color hood crest looked better...the silver or original! To be honest and in all fairness, I'm just not much of a "club guy".

porsche4life 01-25-2009 10:17 AM

I will probably join in april when I turn 18. I hear the local region(Warbonnet) is pretty good and they do lots of autocross that I would love to attend.

Evans, Marv 01-25-2009 11:14 AM

Been a member for 15+ years, but I let my membeship lapse. I noticed they have become a little more friendly when your renewal is late, as they sent a letter asking a reason for not renewing. I remember years ago they would send a letter saying your membership was coming due, and that that notice would be the last you would receive. Pano seldom has anything of much interest, the local publication is OK, but mostly filled with pictures of people standing around in formal attire at some function or other. They do have a number of activities though. Another thing is that I just haven't had time to participate in any of the activities and not interested in standing around in formal attire. So I asked myself why, and came to the conclusion not to renew.

When I was stationed in Virginia in late 2007 I went to one of the Carolinas PCA events in Thomasville. What a great bunch of folks.

Brillo 01-25-2009 11:48 AM

You can change Region. All it takes is a phone call or email to the National office, tell them which one you want to transfer to.

Dottore 01-25-2009 04:37 PM

I'm in.

Some great folks in our local chapter, who organize some very fine tours throughout the season.

cl8ton 01-25-2009 05:29 PM

I re-upped for PCA!
Didn’t join it for the social aspect, love the AutoX’s, DE’s and 10% discount at the local P’Dealer

And yea Pano is a long F’n way from Excellence mag quality!

berettafan 01-25-2009 06:44 PM

Renewed for the auto-x.

Lord knows it isn't for that magazine.

T77911S 01-26-2009 04:26 AM

im going out a limb here since i did not read all the answers.

NO.

i got tired of he same articles. then it seemed like my money was going towards paying for all the board/editors or whoever to go "play" and write the same article about it. im not bitter about the PCA, just got tired of it.
plus i sold my 914-6 and saw no need.

87turbolook911 01-26-2009 05:27 AM

Glad to see all the PCA support out there!

Quote:

I did not renew this time around because I got a notice stating that I would recieve another notice in a couple more months...but I never got that one. So I kinda let it slip. I can honestly say that the only time Iwas able to use any PCA perk was when I parked at Rennlist Reunion III.
Michael,

If I can be of assistance regarding your membership, please feel free to contact me, Vu Nguyen at 703-321-2111 or vun@pca.org

I certainly would appreciate suggestions on articles. Although I'm not the editor, I can certainly forward on the suggestions.

Hope to see you all at an upcoming event!

Manny Alban 01-26-2009 06:20 AM

I belong to PCA and the 356 Registry. Would probably join POC if they had an east coast presence. Any excuse to drive the Porsche and hang out with like minded enthusiast is always a good time. Of course, had I not joined PCA, I would not have tried Autocross, which led to DE which led to Club Racing which led to lots of $$$$ being spent :)

I like Excellence when they do stories on the car AND the owner. Loved the article about the father, the son and the Speedster he left behind.

Jim Richards 01-26-2009 06:48 AM

renewed

cairns 01-26-2009 07:06 AM

Yes I re-upped. Been a member for fifteen years now and think PCA is the best (by far) car club in the world unfortunately represented by the worst (also by far) club magazine. Great people, superior DE program, interesting local events and did I mention the great people?

But as long as you're asking why someone wouldn't reup please allow me a rant about Panorama.....as I think the magazine has a major impact on membership retention. A lot of people may not have time to attend events or volunteer- but want to know what's going on and appreciate reading about their cars and the events, people and history associated therewith.

I'm also a member of BMWCCA and receive their magazine (Roundel) and can contrast that with Panorama every month. Roundel simply blows away Panorama in every respect- superior choice of stories (the 3rd Army capture of Nurburgring during WW2 is a good example), excellent writing and commentary, technical advice columns that fill pages- not a half page, Satch Carlsen, wonderful photography, honest advice and, what I appreciate most, an editorial attitude that isn't afraid to critique the cars or the company when warranted. This month even included a funny (but serious) editorial on "why I want a Porsche". Can you imagine ever reading a humorous "why I want a BMW" editorial in Panorama?

So does anyone know if any changes are in the works for Panorama or is PCA going to continue to churn out the same tired company propaganda? I almost vomited this month when I saw the usual Porsche press photos and read how "sexy" the Panamera is (no byline of course).

What are the President or officers of PCA doing to improve our magazine? Are we doomed to more decades of this drivel? How long have Betty Jo and those folks been there anyway?

berettafan 01-26-2009 07:38 AM

And the crowd said ...'AMEN'.

Suggest ed. @ Pano contact Excellence contributors and buy some stories from those guys. Might be a few fellows from motherland that would be willing to contribute as well. How about recapping old motorsports events a-la ESPN Classics style. Get up with whomever owns Legends of Motorsports rights, pull some screen shots and summarize the race with some background or 'where is it now' type stuff on the p-cars that participated.

Surely the Pano guys have access to some pretty darned amazing people who love to tell a good yarn!

I'll keep paying my dues because IMO the fantastic job done by the folks who run the auto-x's is well worth it and maybe i'll do some de's in the future.

vash 01-26-2009 08:01 AM

IN!

i wish i could just decline the magazine. i read the parts ads, and toss it. i like the events. but i havent done one in awhile.

JTO 01-26-2009 08:12 AM

I let mine lapse after 7 years because my local chapter is populated by a bunch of rich, old, Kalifornicators that would rather talk about their last wine tasting or trip to Venice than the cars. I was told how "awful" my air cooled 911 smelled and how much destruction the old cars wreaked on the environment. Track days never happened.

I had nothing in common with those people...
