...And at the same time this is released, Porsche AG will be rolling out it's new 914, based on this chassis.

Just bet me. They may not call it the 914 (I hope so, if it's a VAG/PAG cooperative effort, it makes sense).. but that is what it will become.

Is this in collaboration with Porsche, or with Audi, or on their own???

I believe with Audi, who's shown a version based on the same platform. I believe they're similar size, etc. to the Pontiac Solstice and the Saturn - wondering if there'll be a significant quality & price difference. If not and I were in the market, the Solstice is coming out with a suuuuweet looking coupe.

The solstice coupe is coming out soon if not already in limited numbers, but the kappa platform is dead. They are not going to be producing any newer models based on those cars, ever. I talked with one of the lead engineers of the platform (that also is used for the Saturn Sky). He was moot on why it happened but was pretty depressed about it as everyone around the project really put a lot of work into it and the result is pretty amazing. The cars handle great and are pretty quick on the track even.

I really love the solstice. The new VW in this thread is also very nice. I'd definitely drive either.

Nope, that's about the time Porsche AG rolls out their mini van.

Probably a really slow seller. Why? As the salesman @ our local GM dealership said: "The only thing you can carry with you in this car is what you're wearing."

That combination of curves and lines just doesn't look right somehow and don't even get me started on those rediculously large rims.

I think this angle best captures the fugliness... It's the rims and wheel arches, they make it look like a hunchback.

Gotta admit, I think the lines of the Solstice just flow better than the VW...
