No energy, give me some ideas.
I've forced myself for years. Now that work is slow, I'm slow. I mean 2 cups of coffee go completely unnoticed. I know I've dragged myself into my truck at anywhere between 3:30 and 5 a thousand times, but now I don't even feel like getting in the truck.
I have no particular pains if I haven't worked my as off. If I do, I suffer for a day, sometimes 2. But these days after a couple day's rest, I'm not ready for anything. I've read about blood sugar (I have no idea, but I don't get "up and down" real easy because of sugar. I've read about testosterone, but I'm active, if you know what I mean. I've read about thyroid, now that one I don't understand much. I use to eat real healthy, no meat since '84 and lots of greens and fruit. Now I'm not interested. I eat too much junk. Alcohol consumption is up. I guess that can give me a lift. Otherwise, I might just sit in front of the TV by late afternoon. That's not me, I don't do huge amounts of TV. Just wondering what some of you have gone thru as you hit your 60's, or before, for that matter. I'll probably schedule an appointment with the doc, but I don't know what to tell the guy. Hey, I beat myself to hell for 40+ plus years and now I'm tired? And I spend way too much time here because it's easy. ![]() |

Do a check up, but my guess is it is more mental than physical.

Well, I don't think mental is the major malfunction here. I'll certainly agree that it does take it's toll, but I'm not just dragging around with a long face. I don't feel good. I don't feel bad, but I do remember the days when there was a glow inside.
I get tired easily, but I have good wind (I've never smoked). |

Question: If you were doing your very favorite thing be it fishing, racing, etc would you be able to jump out of bed and enjoy it? If so, there is your answer.
I have experienced a much smaller degree of this just to occasional burn out. The other thought I have is sleep apnea really can whack out energy. Of course I am not in the medical field and if the above thoughts rub you wrong please ignore. Best of luck. And do consult your MD. Larry |

Get off the caffeine.
It will take a few days to detox but I bet you'll feel worlds better. Drink lots of liquids. I fought dehydration and caffeine fatigue for years until I started listening to my body, now I treat it with a lot more respect.

I'd recommend going to an internist rather than just a general practitioner for this one. In your yellow pages, they're probably listed under Internal Medicine. Those guys know their stuff.

Milt, do you have a history of heart disease? Sometimes my pts will talk of a general fatigue before it being discovered. Cholesterol in check? I see that your diet may have changed, did you begin eating meat again?
Those questions the cardiologist would ask. The psych doctor would be concerned with your withdrawal from normal activities to a passive TV watching. The alcohol increase could be a concern as well. 5 or more days with the "blues" per month? Regards Scott

Interesting, I know alot of people in your state.
This is the 'highest' time of the year for this state, post-spring, winter dul drum is often cited as the culprit around these parts? SUNSHINE is a great remedy if indeed the fact? I've read your post for years Milt, you're a very helpful, kind person that works very hard and is good at what he does; a true professional and gentleman. I can say that I've noticed the past few months your posts are reflective of your state mentioned herein. Yesterday is history, Tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a Gift. Treat it that way, do not waste it. Get to the point where you make one decision or the other; then ask yourself which do "I" like better. ie: This coffee; does it feel better to me to drink this coffee or not? Then do that. It's called following your emotional guideance system. When you're following it properly, your life is filled with enthusiasm and appreciation. Maybe its time for a shift in your life; something that makes you happier. What is it that makes Milt happy? Go find that! Some of my personal inspiration, from Author Esther Hicks: Quote:
Nothing could be more important than knowing what makes you happy; then following it, being true to yourself daily. I hope this helps and I hope you feel better soon? Cheers! |

Some good thoughts. There's Aderol in the house. My wife takes it. I've been classic ADHD since kindergarten, but I don't like what Aderdol can do to the heart rate, etc. Sure, it works, but at what cost? I've done a bit of Lexapro, but I don't know, I'm not a religious drug kind. I got strung out on Ultram once and that's not fun to get off of.
Right now I'm welding some flares on a 914 for someone else, so I'm not getting what you'd say is total rest. OTOH, I have plenty to do. I liked the question about racing (or DE's). I gave that up more than 3 years ago now for a number of reasons. One was my confidence in my reactions and peripheral vision. I've noticed that I bump my foot against things on the ground more than when I was younger. And then there's the general overall hassle of getting up a 4:30 AM to drive 2 hours to the track, drive 3 or so session and drive home. So, if not wanting to do that anymore is a sign of depression, I'm depressed. ![]() I'll do the blood work and see what the doc comes up with. And, yes, I see an internist rather than a general practitioner unless I'm just going to the clinic for some illness. |

About 2 years ago I started with the Aderol and lexpro. That combo changed my life. In 2004 I went from a 16 year career as a floor trader to running a hedge fund off the floor. While on the floor it was easy for me to stay focused but off the floor in the slower paced environment I was all over the map. That combo helped me tune in and always be sharp. I lost a bit too much weight initially on it but I now remember to eat right and got it back. I have since added zocor to the mix because my cholesterol had been creeping up for years. My father is a cardiologist and proscribed them zorcor for me me. My heart rate and BP are fine, but it’s good to keep them checked

No numbness or tingling. I just don't see down like I used to, so I figured I don't see as far right and left as I used to. In fact, I find myself bumping my head occasionally and I used to hardly ever do that because I never were hats.
When driving at the track, you need to see things that you aren't looking at. Anything that changes in your expanded field of vision has to be recorded and processed to see if it needs attention. As a driver, you do this w/o thought. But, if you miss something, by the time you do process it, you could be in deep. This happens to me on the freeways too. I used to drive using the mirrors exclusively. Now, I find that I need to look longer and harder, or just glance over my shoulder. Not too easy in a harness with a helmet, so I don't go anymore. That's fine, I can't afford the track anyway. |

Milt, if it is of any comfort, there are at least two of us with the symptoms you describe. I am just plain tired all the time, yeah...I can get it up for work or whatever is needed, but I have very little energy for anything else. I eat right, more or less, I don't drink too much, I work out 3x per week. But fatigued is the normal state of affairs for me...all the time.
I have a sleep disorder that has gotten worse with time, I take Zopiclone so I can sleep at all, it used to be good for about 5 hours, now I wake up after 2 hours, toss and turn a bit, then wake up every couple of hours and drag myself out of bed at 6 am for work days. Went to my sleep doctor yesterday, asked him about the testosterone thing....he would not even talk about it. He tells me that my body's reaction to stress (positive or negative) is to not sleep....and that makes me more tired, stressed because I don't do what I'd like to do which leads to worse sleep....and the spiral. He also says that I can't lose my belly fat even though I work out as fat retention is related to stress/lack of sleep and it is a defence mechanism. His recommendation? Learn to relax and enjoy stuff. Take out the things that you do not enjoy. It is Ok to rest and just veg...sometimes for weeks at a time if needed to charge your batteries. My opinion...he's wrong, there is something else going on, just can't find it. Oh yeah, all my fluids and stuff is all within normal ranges, no issues It sucks. Dennis
