Statistical Software

Being a multiple 6-Sigma alumni, I was usually allowed to keep mini-tab on my computer. Since I am no longer employed by others, I will need to get something myself.

OK, there is Mini-Tab. What else is out there, and I'm looking for something hopefully easier to use and graphically well done. And cheaper.

About a million years ago I had mini-tab for my MBA. The student version was cheap. Not sure today.

SPSS probably... I thought SAS was more expensive than Minitab.

I have an old version of MiniTab (Release 8) on 3 1/2 floppies and the books that I could send to you if you need them. I have no use for it...

And most of it you can fake with VBA. The math isn't that hard once you do it a few times...

Or any programming language. Heck, when I took notes a lot of it was in code style.

I rewrite a lot of stuff that was originally written in SAS.

SAS seems to be good at pulling data from multiple places and coalescing it together and getting something quick and dirty to run. It also seems to be very tolerant of inconsistent or missing data. It's syntax seems kluge as hell to me.

My job has occasionally involved taking a SAS program and rewriting it (in another language) to make it fast, efficient, and workable in real time. I'm actually rather proud of some of the technology I've developed.
