Yes Naugles and the Naugleberger. Went there many days for lunch in high school too. Those were good.

I forgot to mention one of the most important:

Riverside Raceway

Orange County International Raceway
Pomona Raceway
Saddleback Motocross Track
The old Long Beach Grand Prix course with the hills and the hairpins

Now he's probably going to come back because you said his name. He wasn't real. Someone here had a lot of fun.

Regarding Drive-ins:
The Warwick Drive in Theature in New York State is about an hour's drive from my house. That is Mrs. Z-man and my first choice to go see a new movie. 90% of the movies we see are there. We make a day of it. Lots of fun, and its a great throwback to simpler times. We make a day of it - visit some local farms and purchase some fresh produce, grab a sandwich at the local grocery store, and have a picnic prior to the movie.

Last year, we got my PCA region (NNJR) to do a social event there - I believe a dozen Porsches showed up to catch The Dark Knight.

This website keeps a database of drive ins that are still active in the US. There are still over 500 active drive-ins. If there is one in your area, it is worth checking out.

-Z-man.

Z,
There is one(North 11 Drive-in, Kinston, Nc ) outside of town but it has been closed down for many years. We would love to buy and restore the place but not sure if it is a wise investment.

Highly doubtful. There's a reason the vast majority are closed.

My first job out of high schoool in 74, I was a short order cook at Woolworth's. The assistant manager carried a sidearm because every payday was in cash.

I miss Eastern Airlines - they had a youth fare card you could fly on the DC to NY shuttle for $13 on standby, they also had a economy class lounge on their coast to coast 747s.

I was going to mention Drive-In theaters, but see it made page 4.

Whitefront
U-Disco
Newberrys
Zody's
Lucky's grocery
Market Basket
Woolco
Photomat
Thrifty's

As a side note, I'd say 75% of the local bowling alleys I frequented in the 70's are closed. There were too many even in bowlings best years. I made a meager living bowling from age 16-22.

Roland's fractured English was infinitely better than my German could be in a lifetime of trying, and he was often unintentionally brilliant in his translations.

I don't know all the details, but I believe he died in 2003. It's unfortunate the archives only appear to go back to 2002, as a lot is missing here.

He was fantastic.
