I don't know about stores in your areas, but my closest Crappy Tire (Americans: slang for Canadian Tire) is 70% housewares & other garbage with only 30% auto & tool related. The lineups are filled with 'typical Scarborough WalMart shoppers' who always have some trouble or other with their purchases etc. They usually shop in family groups too just to spread the fun around. Note that I am being very PC here.

There is little to no staff. To get a tool from the locked areas usually takes a 5 minute store search to find somebody with a key. And then they have to escort you to a till.

All in all, not a pleasant shopping experience.

If they sell gift cards cash out the dough and buy gift cards for another store.

I think I know the store, its on Eglinton right? I used to live in the beaches.

Returning anything to that store involved a huge wait. It seemed that the person infront of me would be the one returning a floor jack, jackstands, breaker bar, a 1/2inch socket set but he decided to keep the brake pads.


I also find that whenever I need to buy something immediately from Canadian tire it will be on sale the next week.

Their new stores (Parts Source?) are a huge improvement.

I grew up in a small town and I can still remember my first time in a Can Tire Store; it was in Edmonton, AB. Amazing.... I bought a full sized wooden toboggan.

Now I live in another small Town, only 16,000 people and we've got a Safeway, Zellers and a Canadian Tire. I've become personal buds with the manager there; Gary, who just bounces up and down to help a guy out. He's the best. He'll come up to the cash and tell the cashiers..... "give Rob the last sale price; or give him next weeks sale price, etc" I always take a moment to look for him and say hi.

I am surprised that the credit card companies don't get after them for thier "Canadian Tire Bucks", because if you pay with cash or debit card, they'll give you 2% refund in CTire Bucks; but if you pay with Visa or cc, you get nothing. They have to pay Visa 4% user fee..... so its a way that they self promote an extra margin of 2% and look like heros for doing it. Usually the CC companies won't allow this type of promo, but they've gotten away with it for ever?

For our Southern friends... the store is loaded with stuff!
All kinds of Automotive for the do it yourselfer, with self help cateloges. Sparks, filters, oils, cleaners, wires, do dads of every sort. Bulbs, hitches, fans, car nick naks of every sort. They also sell mowers, ATVs, trailers, tents, camping gear, pool equip and chems, boots, coats, sporting goods. Everything for Christmas decor, BBQs, Every kind of cleaner, bug killer, repellent. Pots 'n pans, every small appliance, tools and tons of tools, paint, brushes, lighting, plumbing, heating. Garden dept, lawn furniture, candy, popsicles, toys. Guns, bullets, gear. And yeah.... tires. They also have a full automotive shop; repairs and service.

I love this place; thank God for Crappy Tire! ;)
As you leave the store, they have a charity box that you can donate your Ctire bucks to a childrens charity. I put mine in there.

Canadian way to spell is "Centre"; however we often use the American verison too. ;)

Parts Source is better. I use the one on the Queensway. I found their prices higher than Canadian Tire and they don't accept canadian Tire money.

I started migrating to Parts Source last year. Agree that the prices are higher but the staff is very good. I have 2 near me. They also lend out the tool that you need for 911 balljoints which really helped me last summer.

I didn't know they were a CTC company . . .

Not sure I subscribe to the "bigger is better" mentality... :rolleyes:

But they do have 'customer cards' which give you access to monthly 'specials' AND it means you never have to keep a receipt, they have all your purchases in the system.

More cutlery and cookware aisles to walk through. :rolleyes:
