Help indentify fugus in my wall

I think that should be "fungus."

Imagine the roots of a plant like a radish in a hydroponic planter, ivory white and spreading out on the surface of the wood. It's pretty much 2-dimensional and very fine. I can't seem to find anything on Google and I'd like to treat it properly. Sure, I can hit it with some chlorine, but I'd like to know what I'm dealing with.

It's very wet in there, but I'm working on the leak that caused this. Sorry, no pics at the moment. TIA

Sounds like you're looking at mycelium. That does at least narrow it down to really being a fungus. Chance are you'll never really identify it, rather find a similar group of fungi. It will remain in the wood until the wood rots or you sterilize the whole inoculated area. If you change the conditions outside of it's comfort zone then you can have it go dormant for many years. Very common in most 'hardwoods'.

Milt, I don't know why you are concerned about the species involved. If I saw something like that in my house, I would reach for one "species" of cleaner: CHLOROX!

Chlorox is the miracle cure that solves a whole-hell of a lot of problems. I even use it on my boat. It makes my shower look like it is BRAND NEW!!

"Round-Up" is a great weed-killer.

It is...on a good day... about 10% as efficient at killing weeds as good ol' Chlorox! The only problem is that killing a weed with Chlorox results in a huge area of dead grass. Chlorox works best on side-yards and other places where there is no grass.

-I haven't messed around with Chlorox and the Porsche 928 engine; I suspect that there are some genuine possibilities for cleaning. Best to keep it away from the timing belt and the wires, but I bet there is no end to how bright it could make all the greasy aluminum look~

Chlorox is the miracle syrup, in my view point. Nearly everything that it touches is better afterwards.

Randy, the wall is open. I hit it with pool chlorine, about 4:1 water/chlorine. The problem came from a bad scupper at the roof directly above. I'm having to do some dryrot work, etc. Been going on for sometime now. I just procrastinated. We have been betting some rain lately, so I could really see what was going on.

add a bristle brush & strong detergent to the chlorine solution

the hyphae are invisible and will surely be widespread. you are seeing only the areas where millions of them are aggregated together

Milt, I have one of these propane forced air heaters if you need it. Works great for drying wood rot.
