One other thing - that damn animal had let itself out of the owner's house. Think about that one for a moment - even the most intelligent canine, cat, or whatever cannot do that. Opposing thumbs open up a whole new world when considering the pro's and con's of this kind of "pet". I'm here to tell you, I'm shooting the next chimp I see loose in my neighborhood...

I happened to be home alone and was inside the bathroom the 1st time, AFAIK, the cat pulled that stunt. Scarred the **** outa me as I thought Jason was outside turning the knob. But this was on a whole nother level. I believe the chimp actually grabbed a key and unlocked the door.

Man, a 200 lb wild animal primate with superhuman strength. That's a pretty risky situation. I also heard it was on some kind of psychotropic drug or something - one of those things Nostatic was on, xanex or something. a 200 lb wild animal primate with superhuman strength - on mind altering drugs. Seems like a parakeet was a much better choice. | ||

Yes, the chimp was on xanex, as well as something else for head lice, IIRC. Who knows... The outcome for it (the chimp) was sad as well. FWIU, it wouldn't go back into its room, but when the police shot it, that's where the chimp ran to die.

Someone on the comments for the CNN video says that the news reported the chimp got a Mr. Potato Head for Christmas and authorities think he was just trying to play Mr. Potato Head with the woman... Pretty sick explanation...

shambala? my cat seems to like me. he sleeps on the bed, and purrs when i rub his tummy. but every once in a while something will short circuit in his little half volt brain, and he will try to kill me. he launches himself off the bookshelf and goes for my throat. a second later he's grooming his whiskers, and acing like the attack never happened. amusing when a ten pound animal does it. a 200 pound chimp is another matter.

A CNN report showed chimps doing the same thing in the wild. There was a "warning" disclaimer before they showed it. I should have heeded the warning. Three chimps ripped another to ribbons - balls and face - then dragged it around for a while. What struck me is I've seen footage of humans doing this to other humans...passionately at that - just like chimps.

I don't have any evidence but I would be willing to bet that woman, not married, nagged the SHI*&T out of the monkey and bossed it around making it do all sorts of SH(*IT it didn't want to. After years of this the monkey snapped. I would guess there is much more to this story that the woman contributed to it's behavior.

I think a few points were a bit overlooked. The owner (that did NOT get mauled) had the chip for a long time, predating current laws about owning certain animals and was grandfathered in. My parents almost bought a monkey a long time ago, before current laws. The only reason they did not, was because the things stink and have a habit of throwing certain stuff around. I did grow up with a chipmunk, another animal that you can no longer own. Did the chipmunk have rabies, doubt it, I'm sure we all were bit at one time. Did the chipmunk come from a pet store - yes, but who knows where the store got the thing. Humans exhibit the same behavior, hence "going postal". This chimp was having a bad day. At the point the chimp first exhibited its bad behavior, the lady should have locked it in a 'chimp' proof cage until it calmed down. Mostly, at 70, she should not even have the chimp anymore. She should have given it up to a zoo, other institute years ago. The story I read, said that the lady had been having problems with the chip all day, hence the xanax. I would not be surprised if the friend that was mauled, had helped in this type of a situation before.

Bout 20 years ago... became acquainted with someone who took care of a chimp that was part of another persons business.. This particular chimp ( Zippy the Chimp) Was great with kids.. Played with kids gently... Also used to pour beers from a tap... clean dishes...straighten the house in a chimp way i.e. fold blankets, but not that well.. The chimp also.. snorted coke... drank beer, wine and liquor, smoked pot..

He used to get loose now and then and you could always tell because all the dogs in the area would start going nuts from him tearing through the backyards.
