My wife and I were driving to my parent place in a rented car for the weekend. It was at night, snowing and the rural highway we were driving was track bare. We came up behind a slower car doing about 70km/h in an 80 zone. After following for a while my wife became impatient and pulled out to pass. We pulled out and passed the car but when pulling back into our lane the back end came around, we did a perfect 180 seeing the headlights of the car we just passed only 30 feet away. We continued the slide around with another perfect 180, into our lane. We looked at each other, then looked back down the dark road and continued the drive. We didnt speak a word for another 30 minutes untill the silence was broken by laughter.

Not a car but, while doing 70 on my GSXR750 riding on the Staten Island Expwy, some a-hole in a BMW decided to run into me. I was in the center lane, he was in the left. Pulled right into my lane( no signal) while I was passing him, and clipped my front tire. All I remember was tumbling , sliding on my back, watching the street lights pass over me, while hearing cars skidding around me. Ended well though. Little road rash on my arm and knee and the front of my helmet ground down. Bike didnt fare as well.

1962 - Driving back from races at Nelson Ledges driving my Dad's 1960 Ford Country Squire. Two of us in the front seat - two in the third seat with the second seat folded down so that they could really stretch out.

Do You Love Me by the Contuours comes on the radio. I start keeping time to the music by wiggling the steering wheel up and down having the car dance. Pretty soon the car starts doing the dance ALL BY ITSELF and I cannot stop it from going from one side of the road to the other.

Fortunately, there were curbs that the car would hit to shoot it back the other way and the there was no traffic coming the other way on the road. I'll remember to my dying day looking in the mirror and seeing the guys in the back go flying from one side to the other and being pasted against the window and then flying back again.

After I did stop the car from careening all over the road, it handled kinda funny...and people started beeping their horns at me. We looked out the window and the tires looked about two feet wide - I had bent every rim as well as the frame!

Told my dad that I had hit an oil slick and lost control of the car and hit the curb a couple of times. He made me show him where - thanks to providence and cars of the '60's there actually was a bit of oil on the same road that I could 'blame' for my carelessness.

Where to start?
Rolled a '50 Chevy truck in a field mud racing. Paid a guy on a tractor in the next field over to pull the truck back upright. Drove home as usual minus the windshield.

Wrecked a 356 Speedster on a freeway off ramp. Drove home not as usual. Bent half shaft and rim.

Went around a corner as a passenger in a '58 Chevy Bel Aire when the driver's door flew open and the driver flew out. I ended up sliding over to the wheel, so I grabbed it and some brakes while the owner ran up from behind. Drove home as usual. Passenger again.

That's 3 of many. Never dunked one, though.

I came pretty close to that in my E30 on I-95 in MD when I was immortal a while back. Best one though was on Rt. 72 in the NJ Pine Barrens. It was so empty that I just stopped in the middle of the road and started from rest, took my Carrera up to about 140.

I had a life or death altercation with a 250lb drunk inside my 1976 Coupe DeVille.

The whole interior was absolutely covered with(his) blood at the end of the fight. I had blood on my headliner, IN my cassete deck, everywhere.

The event actually went a long way toward building my reputation, as when my friends saw the car the next day they were convinced i was a character from the movie Pulp Fiction. It was without a doubt the most savage beating i've ever applied in my life.

First day of legal driving, I took my 200SX up to 80 on a gravel road. 3 360s later I was in a ditch about one ft from a telephone pole. Pulled out and drove home.

Took a corner late one night on the way to a party going way too fast in my Chevy truck and hit some gravel, the resulting drift sent my unbelted passenger flying across the cab and into my lap, bruising his face on my door. Later that night a friend rolled his full truck on the same corner, sending several kids to the hospital.

I won't even get started on the time a buddy got a DUI on the way home from a Widespread Panic concert, forcing me to hitchhike home from central MO. Oh to be young, drunk, and stupid.......

most exciting was having the hood on my 914 blow up at about seventy mph as i was getting on the highway. ripped past the stops into the cowl. had to remove it to drive back home.

most stupid was running over my own foot pushing my corvair to a gas station after running it dry.

Craziest was probably when I was in high school... this was probably about '67 or '68. My dad had bought a '51 Ford F-100 to use hauling hay for my sister's horses and for any truck-related duties associated with some property we had on a small lake out near my grandpa's house.

It had a flathead V-8 in it and one afternoon I was driving out there by myself, and for the last 3 miles or so, I decided to open it up. Hwy. 9 was relatively straight along in there, but was hilly.

She hit 90 going down the last hill. I forget what gear ratio the diff was, but it wasn't made for speed... she was tapped out and wound up tight as a tick.

Bench seat. No belts. If she had blown a tire, I'm sure I wouldn't be here today.

one of the scariest was i was fooling around racing my friend i was driving my 924s and he was driving his 318i and we were doing a good 70-80 mph and i went to pass in the other lane and we came over a rise and there was someone coming at me and the road dove down and to the right. so i swerved back into my lane infront of my friend and the car started fishtailing ( I was still on my snows and it was dry out) and soon i spun a 180 staring directly into his headlights. somehow i spun the car around and guided it into a small gravel area. after that i was ready for new pants.

For the record, a 1985 Ford Tempo dislikes being launched 4 ft in the air into a muddy cornfield. Tough convincing your dad that you just 'hit a railroad track going to fast' when there are corn stalks rammed up around the engine compartment, and the unibody is bent.

***** miracle I survived to 25.

Oh and just a side note large harley cruisers dont like to be layed into the turns to hard. i took my aunts mint harley out for a test cruise and i went to lay it into a turn a bit and the highway bars hit the ground causing the rear wheel to slide out. It scared the hell out of me but i ended up saving it and deciding that ill stick to my suzuki's and bultaco's thank you

Lots of alcohol, a 67 GMC truck with a big block, and a gravel road. When I realized we were upside down, I wasn't impressed. When I realized I hadn't spilled my beer, I was impressed, along with everyone around me.

Man, I miss high school.

The VW bus scene from Fast Times at Ridgemont High with all the smoke? Been there done that, got suspended for it. The sad thing is, I LOOKED like Spicoli back then, From that day forward, the nick name stuck.
