Wow I dont think I would ever swim in that. Be afraid to disturb the surface of the water and ruin the art quality of it. Purely amazing.

Maybe I'm the only one that sees the waste? It's probably time people started not to build monuments to their suckcess. I'm more of the Dennis Weaver type. Build a house out of old tires and dirt. Build a pool out of old tires and dirt and I'll change my mind in a hurry if you can stop the hideous evaporation. Or fill it with treated gray water. Sure, I'd swim in that. I would, really.

More power to them, I say. |

As a fan of modern architecture/design and the infinity pool, thanks for sharing!

And, I'll bet these pools are heated, but not covered. What would be the point of covering an infinity pool? Well, the carbon foot print of something on that order would be something to be ashamed of. I don't care if it's natural gas or not. And look at the electricity being used by the lighting and the pump(s). I say fill 'em all in and install a putting green with subsurface irrigation. |

With all due respect, Milt, you don't know what you're talking about when you call that pool or the house "junk". It's a work of art. Without art and beauty, life would be utterly not worth living. Water shortage or not. And make no mistake, architecture is the highest form of art. It's living art. People live in houses and buildings and their time on earth is defined by it, whether you realize how much it affects you or not.
I'm a huge fan of architecture and I have a great love for early 20th century American houses but also mid-century modern and new post-modern if it's good. Great design is great design and craftmanship is craftmanship regardless of the period or style. Is this house my absolute favorite style? No, but it's beautiful. Out of respect for the privacy of the client I can't post pictures of the interior of the house but it's amazingly great design and it feels great to be in. I was in another new house today that was very similar in specs, (same style, modern pool, eppe wood everywhere, etc., etc...), and it was a POS. It just got leased for ~$15k a month and I would not even want to live in it for free. It just missed the mark in every way. I live in a small apartment that I just can't move out of, it's cheap and the architecture is amazing. Every time I unlock the door and walk in, a great feeling washes over me and my eyes get a treat. Life is too short to spend in shyty architecture. Here is an old house that was a tiny cabin that I worked at this week. Creative couple w/ no kids, they bought it and put major work into redesign that still has the vibe of the original cabin but added beautiful modern deck and pool. I oiled the deck, it's eppe wood. They get major happiness from the deck and love being home, she works from home: ![]() ![]() ![]()

Question for you Milt. How many of owners of these older homes "green" the home? Do they ever go in and make the home more energy smart?

I agree!. That guy has way too much money and he is evil because of it. They should take away all his money and give it to people who haven't worked as hard or been as creative or haven't got as much education! BTW I put a pool in my back yard last year. It isn't as fancy as that one, it isn't really big, It's a salt water pool to save on chemicals, I installed solar heating, it has a 4 stage high efficiency main pump with a fractional horsepower secondary pump to save electricity, and I use a solar blanket pool cover except in the middle of summer. I did all those things because it would save me money, not because I gave a rat's butt about what anyone else might think about my pool or my "excesses". They can pack sand for all I care. I earned it and I'm paying for it. Last edited by sammyg2; 03-14-2009 at 07:13 AM.. |
