I has A Falcon!
My youngest son was goofing around outside and found a falcon with a wounded wing. I spent 30 minute chasing it around a neighbors yard but it's now in a large box to be dropped off at a wildlife rescue station in the AM
I really wish it was a '64-5 hardtop falcon. it would be much cooler.

It's pretty stressed out, I don't think I'll bug him tonight.
I opened the box to remove a huge towel so that it had some room, it was playing possum with it's tongue hanging out!

no don't bother it - keep it in a dark or dim area
it was probably near death if it had to evade a ground predator (you) for 1/2 hour not technically panting - "gular flutter" the rescue people can take picas later or let you take them when it is recovering |

it'a in a 24"x13"x8" box with several holes in it in one of our bathrooms to keep it at a fair temp 65-68 degrees overnight
I hope that they can repair it to flight worthy condition... or state law says off with it's head

We love our falcons here...no matter how many games they lose.

What do you think the falcon's odds of survival would have been had Jim just left it alone?

I've had to rescue two Opreys with broken wings. There are no less than five Osprey nests within a mile of my farm. They are simply magnificent hunters.
One I rescued out of the water. I took the tool golfers use to scoop golf ball out of water hazards, swam out to the Osprey. He, no doubt seeing the extender pole as a threat, grabbed on. I walked him to shore where we ushered him into one of those Igloo dog houses. That is the good news. The bad news is that the wildlife recovery team we took him to said the survival rate is small with predator class birds that injure their wings. We lost both our rescues. Best of luck...I hope your hawk survives. ![]()

this guy a couple blocks from me has a huge owl and q humongous bald eagle in his back yard. He's licensed and rehabilitates them I think . That bald eagle is one big mofo when seen from 3 ft away. we see chicken hawks all around here and I thought they are good size birds. probably make just a snack for that bald eagle

Another bird that's not nearly that big, but still pretty impressive to see close up... ![]() We have lots of hawks around here. I had a red shouldered hawk in a tree in my back yard one day. Another time, driving home from work past an open field, I saw a hawk take off from the top of a light pole, soar out over the field and go from a horizontal soar to a vertical drop. It was really cool to see him getting dinner. Good luck with the bird!

Does it look like this Cooper hawk that was in my backyard a week ago feasting on a dove? Those red eyes really give him a hellish look.

no problem
my point was not that he should not have captured the injured bird - but that he & others should avoid further stress gular flutter indicates heat stress - birds are smart enuff to have "psychology" too, so it may have indicated psych. stress |
