Honda NT650 Hawk GT

I am seriously thinking about selling my Hawk this year. I ride it less and less and have gotten the 'idea' that I'd be better off with a convertible.

I know I'd get more use out of a convertible being able to daily drive all summer and not worrying about my laptop, rain, or having to pick up a kid from somewhere. But there are those times when you just want to get out and RIDE.

Come talk me off the ledge...

I love those, single swing arm, naked, very cool little bikes!

Garage
What's the downside of keeping it?

Also, thinking about trading your motorcycle in . . . for a convertible?

Is there anything else you'd like to tell us?

Yeah, I am looking at Miata's...

The Targa's gone, and I thought I'd get a Miata. But as with most anything; the more you look, the more you want to spend... And honestly, the bike gets ridden very little.

I'll give this a shot.

How much do think you can sell it for? Cool bike and way ahead of its time, but its not an RC-30. I say these bikes in good condition change hands for 3k or less all day long. Is that amount of cash really going to get you into a convertible (or make even a dent in the cost of the convertible you're thinking of?) Compare the market value with your desire to ride...even if its just a couple times per year. I think you'll find that the bike is worth more to you than you can sell it for.

I go through this thought process every so often when I consider selling my '95 Ducati M900.

I have a friend who has had one for several years. He really loved it but wanted something a bit sportier. Instead of selling it and buying a new one.. he set out on a year and a half long project that resulted in this:

The bike lost a lot of weight, as the tank and seat are carbon fiber, as well as a lot of other components like the airbox. That is where I helped him out on it.

It is one mean, mean machine. The front triples are updated to Yamaha R6's I think. Lots of custom machining. He did it all himself though. I was really impressed when he unveiled it. Made me want to buy a hawk and make one too.

That is exactly the thought process that has kept the bike in my garage so far. You are exactly right, I would expect to sell it for 3k, but the reality is that's 2x my current car budget.

I think Schumi may have the right idea. My bike looks NOTHING like that.

Sell your bike? Get a Miata?

I don't know where to begin with you.......I've always had between one and 22 bikes in my stable for the last 44 years; so this does not compute at all.........

And my friend didn't spend all that much on that project. He did all of the carbon fiber work himself with some of my help with the bagging materials and such. He also did all of the machining himself on borrowed machine time.

The downside, like I mentioned, is the bike was out of action for a year. But then again he was moving around alot and in the middle of jobs, so it was on the backburner a few times.

I sold my 1978 Honda Hawk back in 1984, I still have dreams about it but would be scared to ride these days. Too many cell phone/distracted drivers.
