Typical of windows ??

Is this normal for windows?
Every window computer I have owned develops this deal once in awhile.
All of a sudden it will start opening window after window for no reason..you can not close them fast enough!
Finally I just have to pull the plug or rudely shut it DWN.
This happen to anyone else?

onewhippedpuppy 03-17-2009 09:30 AM

You've been looking at porn, haven't you?:p

afterburn 549 03-17-2009 09:34 AM

No it is not opening to porn sites. Just new window after new window..Never looked at a P.site in my life ....right

stevepaa 03-17-2009 09:38 AM

news to me. fair warninghttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/suppo...eys/yltype.gif

HardDrive 03-17-2009 09:43 AM

You have some kind of adware/spyware infection. Do the windows say anything? Can you open up taskmanger and see the name of the .exe its trying to kick off?

gr8fl4porsche 03-17-2009 09:43 AM

Typical of adware and spyware infestation - maybe a little viri thrown in for good measure.

Tidybuoy 03-17-2009 09:59 AM

This happend to my computer once - it was due to a virus which cleared up after a virut/spyware scan and deletion of files.

TerryH 03-17-2009 10:01 AM

Speaking of adware, is Ad-Aware impossible to update now or is their site broken? I admit to always using the free version. They seem to have issues and all the FAQ's pertain to them, but even those don't work for me to get the updates.

Think they just want cash to make it all better?

afterburn 549 03-17-2009 10:05 AM

No, just a blank window

911Rob 03-17-2009 10:10 AM

time to clean.
Anti-virus and spy

wouldn't hurt to take it to a PC shop and have it cleaned.

Jim727 03-17-2009 10:14 AM

Definitely not normal behavior. Do as HardDrive says and/or download and use HijackThis - you can get it (and help) here:
http://www.hijackthis.de/

Terry- AdAware SE is technically no longer supported. You can get the current defs here:
http://www.lavasoft.com/single/mirror_download.php?f=948DEWk12
but you have to install them yourself. Another useful link:

Is it possible you have a sticky keyboard holding a keystroke or something like that?

afterburn 549 03-17-2009 10:18 AM

Lets see.. will try all the above , and also
I just ran windows Defender - says no problem
I also have stopzilla they allways find some thing but not what ever is bugging me.
I will try- "Hijack this."

Paul_Heery 03-17-2009 10:24 AM

I would look to see if you have a sticky keyboard first. But, since you don't go to porn sites, we can rule that out.

Then, download, install and run Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware. If you have anything on your PC, this should identify it and, in most cases, clean it up.

cgarr 03-17-2009 10:35 AM

I like the one that pops up and says you have a virus, to fix it buy our program!

onewhippedpuppy 03-17-2009 10:39 AM

I like Spybot Search & Destroy. Between that and AdAware, it seems to clean up pretty well.

dd74 03-17-2009 10:39 AM

This doesn't happen with Linux. Or Mac, for that matter.

afterburn 549 03-17-2009 10:45 AM

My next puter will be a apple of some sort....this HP Vista creates a huge vacuum with its nonsense.
Are yo sure that you are ..sure ?
do you want to ...
you are about to.....
GRRRRR

jeffgrant 03-17-2009 10:45 AM

I've had that happen with a keyboard that was shorting out. Replaced it and no more problems.

That's Windows, man; an exercise in an OS covering its own corporate ass. SmileWavy

TerryH 03-17-2009 10:47 AM

Those multimedia keyboards have buttons all over the place. Perhaps resting your hand on the browser button?

Thanks for the heads up on Ad Aware, Jim. Nothing mentioned on their site that I noticed.

afterburn 549 03-17-2009 10:51 AM

Nope it will just start going and going and going
Not every day this happens..
but once in a while..Last time was this Am over on a dodge site (DTR) Not their fault . It will happen any where
It acts like a stuck key but is just a HP junk Lap top

911Rob 03-17-2009 11:00 AM

maybe its your keyboard?
do you have another you could temp try?

Edit: sorry, I see this was suggested on Pg1 a couple times already

+1 on Spybot

JavaBrewer 03-17-2009 11:10 AM

What kind of window? A windows explorer window (your file system) or a internet browser window? Does this happen when you startup, open an application or browser your filesystem, or when you launch a web browser?

afterburn 549 03-17-2009 11:14 AM

My Browser window (google )

masraum 03-17-2009 11:20 AM

nope, not a problem for me. Your stuff's broke! I'd agree, probably an adware/spyware problem. I've even seen Dells have a weird mouse/keyboard problem where they get a mind of their own.

stomachmonkey 03-17-2009 11:24 AM

As said could be a stuck keyboard.

Very slim but could also be your cell phone.

I've had a couple of brands/models that make funky stuff happen when placed too close to a puter.

afterburn 549 03-17-2009 11:31 AM

Now there is a idea ! That might be it !

JavaBrewer 03-17-2009 11:32 AM

On our Mac I had selected all the folders in my music folder and accidentally hit the enter key while I was moving them to another directory. It proceeded to try and open in a separate window every folder... so user error occurs on Mac too guys...

You said it has happened on several windows machines. Different keyboards or the same? With it being a browser window (which browser?) then I would bet some sort of spyware.

afterburn 549 03-17-2009 11:58 AM

several diff computers and boards

That isn't a user error - that's how the OS is supposed to work.

afterburn 549 03-17-2009 01:16 PM

Os ??

Call me crazy but having several hundred finder windows opening at once classifies as user error to me. Yes that's what the OS is supposed to do so I didn't ***** at the Mac OS...well...sorta... ;)

mudman 03-17-2009 02:56 PM

I had this happen the other day (no porn on this machine) while on a realtor.com page. New windows kept appearing and I had to use task manager to stop the madness. since then I've had it happen once more, not @ realtor.com, and some other funky stuff with IE, like not shutting down, not responding until I start task manager, etc.

I just thought it was typical MS crap, but now I running adaware and will run spybot s+d when that finishes. Will report back when finished.

afterburn 549 03-17-2009 03:11 PM

Os. like SOP. I get it thanx
This is my 3rd Lap top from Hp..all have crapped out....and I would not care so much if they had taken care of it in a professional manner.
Was like 6 months B4 they replaced the 1st one . Each time it became a heated dispute.
If they would have fixed it or taken care of it in a timely manor I would having nothing to complain about
HP, for me?
Not ever again !!!!!

mudman 03-17-2009 04:11 PM

Not sure if this was the problem, but Adaware just found monitoring software in my wife's IE temp folders. After talking with the other user of this computer I found the cause.

And I am a happy man.

I found and eradicated malware, and my wife likes naked chicks

Thats what I use as well. I had the multiple windows thing happen recently too. I had to do the hard boot shut down and stop it. I ran both above mentioned programs and haven't had a problem since. My daughter goes on alot of sites (Club Penguin, Nickkids, Disney, Disney fairys, Miniclips ...etc.) and they all seem to load this computer with a bunch of UNWANTED spyware. I typically scan after each time she is done using the computer. Its only happened once so far. KNOCK ON WOOD. :D
