LOSt - thoughts?

a few annoyances:

When Sawyer and Jin are on the walkie-talkies and Jin says he has found Sayid...are we to believe that nobody else has walkie-talkies and nobody else heard that?

A few episodes ago when Sawyer and folks were found by the DI, Sawyer said he wanted to look for his friends...why not just say , hey, I found my friends...even though its 3 years later? seems alot easier than all this

this show frustrates me. seems they obsess on certain details and disregard others

jack is the worst, the most annoying character in television history. i can think of nobody that comes close to making me want to throw a brick into my television

why when sawyer asked him how locke died, must he answer (as usual), "it doesnt matter"

i wish the smoke monster would eat him or at least rip his arms off

I guess we assume they have the ability to select a specific frequency for a specific walkie-talkie.

Jack annoyed me when he strolled into Sawyer's house and starts trying to call him out. "looks to me like you're reading...". What a jerk! Sawyer has proven to be a more pragmatic leader, and a better one. Jack sucks.

It's our frustration with Jack that, in part, makes LOST such a great show. Can you name another weekly show in which the writers would have the gall to make the male lead so unlikable? I mean, sure, Jack means well, but he's so sure of himself (and usually wrong) that most of us would deck him in real life.

I am going to reiterate my Jack/John/James= Holy Trinity theory here. They all have "J" first names (like Jesus), Jack's name is LITERALLY Shepherd (like Jesus), and they all have "Daddy Issues" (like Jesus).

SO, they the three of them are three very different parts of a necessary entity: the Island's leader. Notice how Jack was the leader of the survivors, Locke is the leader of the Others, and James is becoming a leader of the DHARMA Initiative.

Also notice that they represent three very different (and trimetrically-opposed) ways of dealing with problems: John believes, Jack acts, James thinks.

And yet, there have been times when James/Sawyer hasn't had time to think, and he has to act on his gut. Likewise with Locke. And there have been times when Jack has put a lot of thought into what his next move is.

I think one of the great strengths of the show is that it has shown every character to be multi-faceted and complex... and that is something everyone can identify with as an observer; no one is one-dimensional or otherwise easy to pigeonhole as a certain type of person. No one is "good" all the time and no one is "bad" all the time.

No one is smart all the time... no one is stupid all the time, etc.

Look at all the many facets (or stages of development?) of John Locke we have seen.

what about that move juliet pulled on kate? haha what a b*tch

i can forgive jack for most of his annoyances...but i have developed an intense madness that comes over me every time he fails to answer someones question by saying "it doesnt matter" or "its not important" or "now is not the time"

regardless of jack, here i am 5 years later still watching...so...something about the show works, though i am starting to think im being a sucker

AHA, but, note that when Locke has to act quickly, he always follows his beliefs. I am thinking about situations when Jack wouldn't let him "push the button" until he gave him the combination to the gun room: he believed in the importance of "pushing the button" so strongly that he had to act quickly, and immediately picked the button. He's also done things like throw knives at complete strangers in a tight situation based entirely on his belief system.

Sawyer almost never acts impulsively. Every time quick decisions are needed, he asks prodding, annoying questions (I am thinking of Farraday trying to explain why they need to find the Orchid Station) in order to think about the best solution. I suppose this is the bread-and-butter of a con man!

Jack HATES being put into situations in which he has to be patient and think it out. Hence why he didn't want ANYTHING to do with the button.

There are probably exceptions, but the writers have been very consistent with the characters' personality traits.

I see what you're saying... good observation and analysis.

Almost from the beginning, I have pretty much just been along for the ride, not trying to figure out what's going on and definitely not visiting fan sites trading theories... that's more work than I want to put into it.

I do think the characters are all multifaceted and complex, though... for instance, it was a long time before we saw Sawyer's "soft side" but then it came out. He was always a bit of a conundrum, though... he would sit and read, and that didn't seem like something that fit him... but it began to make sense, like you say... it fits with being a con man.

I still think it's one of the best sci-fi shows that's ever been on TV, but it sure throws some dicey curves at the viewer.

Yeah, but you know he'll screw up and blow his cover. Somebody will get hurt and he and Juliet will jump in and perform emergency brain surgery with a set of steak knives or something.

Pretty ballsy of a new recruit to go knocking on the head of security's door on the first day. Why did Kate get such a good house?

and pretty stupid of juliet to be hugging jack in the doorway with that other DI guy outside watching

crap like that, contrived lazy writing, which is obviously intended to help the story along is what i hate about this show. juliet is a smart person supposedly,....why not get jack in the house, shut the door and then hug and tug in private...wouldnt that be more natural and smart?

or am i being too critical?

at this point, given her leaving Kate off the manifest until the last second, i must assume that juliet is planning to ruin things for those that returned...which would make the hugging in the doorway not so stupid

but....why would jack be so stupid to hug in the open?

i dunno

Agreed on the doorway hug- that was totally hamfisted, and unrealistic for two supposedly intelligent people.

When are Juliet and Kate going to kiss?

as soon as I saw the doorway hug I was like WTF people... you aren't supposed to know each other... give me a break.

The show in complex and interesting enough for me to watch it every week. I find myself not asking any questions anymore.

Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles is my most important show to watch right now. I think that has more to do with Summer Glau and less to do with the story line. But I at least find myself wondering where that story is going to go and what's going to happen.

Lost... I don't care anymore. Hopefully it goes volcanic and just offs everyone left on it.

Not at all... I thought the same thing. I wonder if there will be bad things coming from that. rammstien is right... they're both too smart to have let that happen.

A year or two ago, a friend turned me on to a place at EW.com where a guy blogs about the show, so I signed up for an email update/reminder of his postings, but I have probably only gone there about 6 or 7 times. This is his most recent one:

http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,1550612_20245769_20266554,00.html?xid=email-alert-lost-20090319-item1

Sometimes the user comments are pretty interesting, but some of the people are obviously pretty obsessed... check this out:

User comment:

Around 55 minutes into the episode right after the door ominously opens while Christian is showing Sun the picture of Dharma 1977 there is a close up shot of Sun's face. If you look over her shoulder you see someone right behind her move his or her head. The person seems to have red hair so im thinking it may be Charlotte.

If you don't believe me go check your DVR =)

well, thats why i mentioned in the post that im now assuming that Juliet is up to something bad regarding jack, kate and the rest of them.....

but then i thought some more about it and realized that if juliet is discovered hugging, the consequences will be bad for her too, no?

so now im back to thinking that the writing is lazy, like on an elementary school level when it comes to human interaction and moving the plot along

clearly the science aspect of the writing is very high and complex and interesting...

but on the basic level, these writers must be total dorks

the blog quote is interesting. ill re-watch it on-line and see

the various lost forums are filled with some very obsessed and very odd humans, ive lurked in quite a few of them

EDIT: oh, i think your "not at all" was meant in response to my asking if im being too critical...i read your post wrong. sorry

If I was the writer, I woud have some kind of dream sequence where Juliet and Kate kiss. Actually, Sun too . They all kiss and giggle.
