Got the notice the other day and it's just peachy, normally only work the drills for about 4 months a year but these last 4 yrs have been all out @ about 9 months a year, this is 12-14/7 days a week , in the jungle in S. America and I can't wait to get home , done 21 different countries and 32 years at this racket and I welcome the break, picked up my first P-car last Sept., 87 930 and it is a big time thrill, did the British car thing, did the muscle thing, did the formula race car thing, but there is no sub, I'm hooked, I know there are a bunch of guys out there that have lost there jobs these past few months and are probably feeling the pinch, I feel for ya, but I love it that I have no work to do, other than the wifes duty list, THWT, (to he** with that) , I'm in the garage, tweaking and fixing and just having a ball, hope this doesn't offend people but I get to hang with my 9 year old son, who is car nuts and as far as I'm concerned, the sun is shinning on my side of the ball, my lay off is 2-4 months so it really isn't a biggie, told the wife that now I can finally watch her paint the house, ya that went over big, gotta go to Peru next week but only for a few days so that will be my holiday, my real focus is the 930 and some new skins, maybe some Jeff Alton wheels to boot, am I the only guy to get layed off and happy about it????

Ha, congrats!
On Feb 6th I got three emails in the morning... first one was that I got my bonus for '08. About an hour later another email went out to the company saying that there were no pay raises this year. About 20 minutes later I got an email asking me to go to HR at 1030. I knew what was coming, and I was ready for it. Best thing that's happened to me in years, as far as I'm concerned. My wife is a bit anxious, what with our firstborn on the way in just a couple weeks. I had a pretty good job, paid OK, was steady and a good company. But it was boring as hell and I could NEVER seem to muster up the courage to try stuff I really wanted. Well, now I can. My severance is enough that I can try a couple things and STILL spend some time with the Little Baby Notfarnow. 2009 is gonna be a BANNER year!

So I gotta ask, what do you do that requires that much traveling to different places?

I've been warned that I'll be canned first week of April if I'm not at 100% of revenue goal. I have no way of knowing my revenue until first week of April, so opening my commission file will be like a scratch off lottery ticket. I either get a big commission check or a pink slip. As fearful as I am of being unemployed in this economy, it will be a huge relief to know I'm done with this wretched company and that greener pastures await. If I get any severance, I'll certainly take a motorcycle trip before starting some other job.

I got laid off about 5 years ago. My, how time flys. I've still got lots of personal projects left to do so I'll leave it another 10 years or so and start looking for a job

You guys know my story of late.
While I don't really like the hourly job I am doing now, it is kind of nice not having any more responsibilities than my route and those accounts. My home phone doesn't ring late at night with someone calling in sick or a machine down. Heck, I don't even carry my cell phone at my side. It sits in the truck and I check it between jobs. When it rings, I very casually pick it up. When I get home at night, work is done. My wife says I have been much more relaxed lately. I consider this as a break of sorts from the management grind I was in at the old company. I spoke to my old boss today. He told me things are getting even worse for the folks that are left and should consider myself lucky that I am no longer having to deal with the crap. Bottom line, IMO, is that you should take it for what it is and enjoy it as long as you are making ends meet noone should worry about it. Funny thing is that we are probably better off now financially than we were before I was laid off. Life is funny. ![]()

It is, but don't wait until the last minute to find new work. You are likely to settle for a lower wage than you would otherwise
![]() This shows the lowest acceptable wage. It lowers as you get close to exhausting your UI. ![]() Guess when the benefits run out? ![]() I can't find the graph I want that relates wage offer frequency with wage offer amount. People tend to accept a lower wage as UI benefits run out... It is a lot like the first graph.

I have a problem with telling stories about enjoying prostitutes, on this board.
If PPOT is a "family board", to the extent that bare nipples cannot be shown, then I don't see that members' stories about the prostitutes they've hired should be permitted either. |

Listening to talk radio the other day, they were discussing the stress experienced by those who are NOT laid off after some positions were cut. Those still working have to pick up the extra work load, continue to wonder when their time will come etc. It's a double edged sword. I think I'd rather just get it over with and move on.
However it doesn't sound like you're in the same boat as the general population of workers. As Vash says, you're on vacation.
