Rest in peace Abby! My Max is 13 1/2 right now and has some weak back legs although at times he still thinks he is a puppy. Last night he was trying to chase his tail. I got him from the pound when he was 8 weeks old and has slept next to my bed every night since I got him. I try not to think about him going, but I know he can't live forever.

There are no words to express our appreciation. Here's one more to further immortalize her in cyberspace. (We shaved her hair short for the Georgia summers. She would prance around like a puppy for a week or two every spring after the annual event):

Mike, I still turn around to call Pascha & Murphy when returning from my morning walk with Sam & Jack.

Condolences sent to all.
We lost our beloved Max some years ago in this fashion. I got a call from my wife while I was at work and she said he was by my chair and that was where I had left him that morning. I heard dog tags in my head for months after he passed. Finally, almost a year later 9/11 happened and I said I'll be damned if I won't get another golden before I croak. Had dogs (goldens) all my married life (39 years), can't live w/o them now. They just make a good day "great" and a bad day "bearable". |
It just tears at my heart to read these threads. Condolences on your very tough loss. I just cannot imagine life without my dog, but I know it will come someday (fortunately many years away God willing). Abby sure looks like a really sweet dog and I know you are missing her terribly right now. In time, it will get easier, but you will always remember that sweet family member. Lucky she passed in a very peaceful manner - blessed.
I think I will go hug my dog now. |
Notfarnows dogs get sammiches tonight!

I'm sitting in my office at work with tears running down my face. We lost one of our dogs last night. She was also named Abby. :(
She was only 6 years old. A vet told us when she was still very young that she had an enlarged heart and would probably have heart problems. I don't know if that was it but one minute she was running around the yard with our other dog and the next minute she was out. What a helpless feeling. She was the best dog we've ever had. She had so much personality and would always make us laugh. I'm just so sad I can't concentrate on anything else. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1245158203.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1245158219.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1245158260.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1245158307.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1245158338.jpg |
Condolences, she is beautiful. They leave a huge whole when they go. Hard to find words to fill the void.
|
David sorry to hear about your Abby. Looks like she was a great dog.
|
Awe damn. Another pup gone. So sorry to hear this. All our best to you and your family.
|
My sincere condolences. It is sad that dogs live such short lives.
|
Sorry to hear of another great dog headed to the bridge. I look at my 14 year-old (used to be) black & tan Cocker who is now black & silver...I just look into his eyes every day and try to let him know how much he is loved.

125, sorry for your loss. They sure do become part of the family and leave a huge empty spot in your heart after they are gone. They absolutely do not live long enough IMO. My 4.5 YO Standard Poodle also has an enlarged heart just to the top end of normal. Recently, she has been getting tired just a tad sooner than in the past when we run in the yard and she can't go on the 3-4 mile jogs with me anymore. Those need to be much shorter. I fear that we may lose her in a couple of years. I hope I am wrong. My wife will be devastated if that happens.
