Flashing headlights to warn of speed trap

Anyone ever notice that on the BMW E46, probably most models, the inner headlights are for flashing only? My xenon lows and highs are both in the outer headlights. The inners only come on when pulling the stalk in and won't stay. I assume that's for the German custom of flashing someone to get the hell out of the left lane as you ride their bumper at 220 kph.

Yes, I flash. Never been busted for it. I was saved on the bike a few mos. ago when a KTM rider warned me on a very twisty moutain road where cops target bikes. I thought I had already made it into the clear and was turning it back on when I got the low wave. Sure enough, cop around the next bend. Didn't get me.

I want to see evidence. An officer's testimony is no different than mine.

Yeah, tell that to the judge. How much time do you have t waste. Its not like typing a few key strokes when you a re taking 5 from your job.

Now I've notice that alot of semi trucks have a small green light on their drivers side mirror and I'm wondering if this is a signal to other drivers at night? Maybe they turn it red if there's a cop or trouble ahead? Does anyone know what that green light is? I've seen it more and more lately.

Green on left, red on right, boats have it too

I always flash my lights to warn of a speed trap. I am also fairly certain that it is something you can be cited for in many if not most states

I believe in NJ, if you flashed the way mentioned by the OP, you can get a sitation for using your high beams in an inappropriate way.

Thus, when I pass a speed trap during the day, I simply turn on and off my regular headlights.

Not sure if that would hold any water in the court of law, but it is one less fuel for the police to get me for a traffic violation.

Of course on the highway, I will also do this as a courtesy to notify the tractor trailer that just passed me that he is clear and can move back into my lane.

I don't know if warning oncomers is illegal here or not.
But cops would not have to prove such claims here, they are civil servants and believed to be telling the truth. So their testimony outweighs that of a civilian.
Kinda sucks if you ask me, you should run into a cop who was cheated on by his wife with his best friend... He'll do you good and there's nothing you can do.
