I think .380 and 9mm ammo is nearly unobtanium now. I stick with .358SIG, .40 and .45.

Yep...haven't seen 9mm at Wally World for a very long time. Glad I bought enough of it when I could find it....I know...that was part of the problem.

I have been seeing a lot fo .45 lately.

So far this year, the only handgun ammo I've seen locally is .25 auto and .44 mag....

I bought some 9mm online earlier this year. Prices were not as nice as I'd like to see them. :(

if im correcto-MUNDO it was the .38 that the filipinos that were high as hell on mood altering drugs failed to put down in JUAN SHOT! .38=9mm essentially. therefore BIG IS ALWAYS MO BETTERERERERER.........senor browning gaves us da1911(born on date) .45ACP. filipinos =samoans=hawaiians= very big DUDES. lots of POI in diet as well as cheetos and ding dongs and twinkies. 300 pounders were the norm. hell yeah i want a .45!

as far as slides.........well really it comes down to fine tuning all components. ie. jewel/polish everyting.ie. smooth is MO BETTERERER.

the real impotent part is RAMPING. thereby urine rounds feed out of mag/clip up da ramp and into da PIPE easily.

mo bettereer extractors are impotent also

Cool! That confirms what I'm doing to mine :) Kinda simple technical sense w/r to sliding parts.

I certainly don't rely on it exclusively, but if I find myself unable to conceal my 5" 1911 I carry a Keltec p32. It's a hair under 7oz empty and something like 10.5 loaded with 7rds. It fits right in a pocket, DAO, no safety and bulges less than an iPhone.

we can all argue about rounds and stopping power until blue in the face here.

big kalibers =offensive.........because they are very offensive to the body-anywhere.

itty bitty baby kinder kalibers= when bad guy shows up least(LEAST) expected and SOMETHING IS BETTERER THAN NO-THANG!

now do i go camping with itty bitty baby kinder kaliber? hell no! backpacking/scouting, compact 9mm at the least or more than likely ultra compact .45.

Sounds like a good plan.

With the number of available 9mm pistols out there in very small packaging I don't see why I would want any thing in a smaller caliber. 3 inch barrel + good ammo = more than adequate fire power.

remember as it is etched in granite and the krauts bombed pearl harbor..............


always always take mouse gun or any gun for that matter and SHOOT 200 rds of various flavors to check groupings and function. then..............take to smithy or if yer really good, start fine tuning all the parts and checking for fail safe betterer mousetraps(parts) to make it uber ultra mega reliable.

.380's .32's, .25's and kinder .22's can be very very finicky re garding diets.

Because even a 3 inch barrel, 9mm weighs a lot and is not so easy to conceal. The Keltec P3AT is so small, I have it on me at ALL times, even if I'm carrying something else.

In the "winter" time, when I can cover things up more easily, the choice is easy, full size 1911 in 45ACP. Cause bigger is always better, when you can have bigger.

My "Car" carry, what I keep in the car, is a Browning HP, with 13 rnd mags. Pleanty of power, lots of rounds, fits in the center console.

There are merits to the smaller pistols, James, hence my comment about not totally discounting them in an earlier post. For me I just don't like that they are so small I may not get comfortable handling them. Maybe I have freakishly large hands.

I'll have to weigh the PF9 loaded. Memory tells me that a can of soda in one pocket of my cargo shorts was about as heavy as a loaded PF9 in the other pocket. With the factory clip it disappears in the belt line.

The PF-9 is a great pistol, but it is closer to the size of the P-11 than the P3AT.

Shooting the P3AT is NOT a joy. I expect the PF-9 is even more of a handful. Of course, I expect it is better than my old P-40/P-357. That was painful to shoot.

For me, it isn't so much weight, as size. I carry my P3-AT in the provided "rug", with an extra magazine under the trigger guard. It prints as a wallet.

What I'd really love, would be a 9mm or 45ACP in titanium, made as "thin" as possible. There are a lot of "exotic" metals out there, which could allow the frames and slides to be made thinner and lighter. Of course, they are not going to be cheap. And I doubt that there would be enough people to buy them.

I've found in the last year or so of carrying concealed that the size of the pistol is a more important factor (for me) than the size of the cartridge. I'm 6'1" and 185lbs and it's tough to conceal a large pistol. The Sig P239 is the largest pistol I think I could conceal and still wear comfortably. I holster cross-draw style with a DeSantis IWB and the Sig starts getting heavy after a few hours. If you really want to carry concealed, try it for awhile and you'll see what I mean!

Hmmm, i'm 5'8" 155 and i carried a full size 1911 for years without much fuss.

Go figure.

Perhaps it's your mode of carry. Cross draw is neither very comfortable nor very tactically sound. A good high quality holster also really helps a lot.
