I'm not crazy about the interiors in Corvettes for the last 30 years but the overall package of the Z06 cannot be denied. As for doing "everything better" than a 997, the equivilant model from Porsche is the GT3 and the Z06 definitely does not do everything better. You cannot compare Chevys and Porsches dollar for dollar, Chevy wins that one just like Timex beats Rolex. They both click off one minute every 60 seconds, it's how they do it.

You really need to ask who will buy those??? I think a lot of old 911 owners are just upset that a $22k 4000lb chevy V-6 will smoke their butt badly from a standing start. |

I think the thing to do would be to buy a 928 and drop in the Camaro V8. Now that would be a car. :-)

There is another poster here who makes a single turbo kit good for 400+hp, and several different 928 SC kit makers as well. No Chevy motor required.

FWIW, I think that early Corvettes were works of art. I dream about owning a '65 Stingray w/ a 327/365hp f.i. as much as I dream about any Porsche. I also like '69 Camaros. A guy I knew had a '69 Z-28 clone w/ a 427 and "best of everything" that got pulled-over by cops on a constant basis, just so they could ask about the car. They'd pull up next to him and ask him what it did in the quarter, he'd say, "wanna race?"

I'm waiting for the "Meagan Fox in the passenger seat" option. I saw it in a movie, it must be a factory option, right?

"I wouldn't mind driving this fully track ready car."
What does the fully track ready car weigh? I agree with Denis. The '69 Camaro/Z28 was the quintessential Camaro. My friend's autocross-winning '71 Camaro weighs in at around 3200. That's with '71 technology. Surely GM could have done better 38 years hence. Instead, they retro'd past to the 50's, weight-wise. I think they missed the feeling with this new version. As fine a GT as the 928 is/was, it could have been superb with a few hun less than 3600 lbs. and an engine that was more user-friendly - not made more friendly (maintenance-wise) by low production numbers. I sold 928s new at the dealership and drove them all brand new, including the manual trans 928 S4. (Pretty fast). They were great cars like most all Porsches but always had a very limited appeal. They were not pure sports cars, (99% were slush boxes in the U.S.), kind of a neither fish nor fowl situation. The heavy weight never bothered their target demographic, they were cruisers.
The new Camaro I don't see as some kind of refined GT car. It's more of a parts bin car, a styling exercise. Making a car go fast is the easiest thing on earth for a manufacturer, no one should ever be impressed by that. Hyundai could make an 800hp car if they wanted. It's all in the details and execution, the overall package.

Done in the same color and same numbers as a car Mark Donahue drove for Penske..

Looks cool. If it weighed ~3k lbs., I'd say "ya got something there."

My 996 is about 3050 w/ half tank of gas. I was thinking anywhere near 3k would be acceptable. 4k is a beached whale.

living in So Cal you forget Porsches might be performance cars. Tiptronics, soccer moms, and cell phones are more common than any performance add ons

You compare a Z06 to a GT3, its equivilant only in performance, but come on dude, the base price of a GT3 is $112,000, the base price of a Z06 is $72,935. That is a huge difference in price. 72K is 997 money so that is the comparison that I make. Again, what could Porsche build for 40K. I could buy a GXP(performs as good or better then more expensive BMW) and have a Z06 for the weekends for the price of a GT3. Just checked. 72K is actually just a tad short of 997 money, they start at 76K.
