Found during the day?

Careful. Nocturnal animals out during the day can be rabid.

Same thing just dawned on me... he is cute (lady friends might disagree) but he (she?) is a feral rodent... be careful.

As far as feeding and care... maybe call the local zoo?

Is it an adult or juvenile? Adults eat insects... get some crickets and/or meal worms at the pet store?

Don't know much other than they can't fly from the ground. They have to "drop" into flight. It is cool to watch them drop out of my bat house and take flight.

Be very careful...watch your cats. If rabies...well, just be very careful.

Unhappy

I found him at the lodge as I was leaving, he wasn't able to climb or fly and being right next t the door, I knew someone would kill the poor little guy so I 1st moved him to some bushes (by this time one of the guys from the lodge offered to put it out of it's misery, but since I was heading to a friend who has a small farm, I got him in a box & took him with me. I ended up bring him home as there was nothing my Friend could do and since we worked bird rescue groups and the local Zoo, the plan was to turn him over to them, but even though I made him a nice, safe cage, put some lettuce, mini tomato, honey & water (I didn't was to put ants in as he was very weak, I did put a moth in though and put him in a dark area with lots of fresh air. I kept checking on him, looked like he tried to get some water, but the last time I checked, he was gone

I just buried and said a little prayer for him
R.I.P. little guy

Bats are one of the primary carriers of rabies on earth. Most people that contract rabies get it from bats.

Does it have mold on it? There are entire populations that are getting wiped out by a white-ish mold on their bodies.

Be careful with that thing. (yes they are cute).

EDIT: Just saw that the little fella passed. It was probably the mold/fungus that's killing them by the millions.

If you want to read about the fungus, here's a link to a google o' articles:

So sad... you're a good guy Byron for keeping the little critter comfortable in the last hours.

I was emailing a lady friend about a week ago...

"what are you doing?"
"I'm building an echo sounder for the bat head exhibit at the museum"
"Ew... bats... they creep me out..."
"Well, is is not a real bat, it is a big fiberglass bat head on a swivel that you point at things and it beeps relative to the distance things are away form it"
"I don't care... those webbed wings with the claws sticking out of them... yuck!"

Whatever

They aren't so freaking cute when they are flying around my living room on occasion in the summer. We get them in the Adirondacks and I go after them with a tennis racquet. Their fine outside where they can eat bugs but I don't want them in the house. It's a warm summer night phenomenon I can do without.

They are actually good for the environment as they eat bugs, just don't want them snacking on me!

When they are out in the daylight it's a bad sign.

Our neighbor found a bat once in his house, clinging to his window screen. I caught it using a blank CD tube and brought it home. He was friendly enough to wriggle around a bit. After a while I took him down to the garage and let him loose, where he flew around a bit to get his bearings and then flew out the door.
Bats are one of my favorite animals. Aside from the obvious.

About 20 years ago, my father went out to the kitchen in the middle of the night, sat down on the kitchen chair. And sat right on a bat....

I've always wanted a house with a "Bat room" with an open window. Except for the guano smell, that is....
