Cop Story
Why cops will never get respect.
I have finally chilled enough to write about this...this am, driving to work with my wife in the passenger seat. I'm driving her Mazda 3 with tinted windows that we made sure were the legal tint shade for Georgia....and have the receipt in the glove box JIC. So we are in the HOV where only cars with 2 passengers or more can ride, and it's of course the far left lane. I am moving along with traffic and I see Mr. Policeman in the lane to my right, and as I am coming up to be equal with him, Mr. Douchenozzle In Training extrordinaire just jumps into my lane without using the little blinking thing that indicates a lane switch....Strike One. So my wife utters "nice signal" and I simply roll my eyes as I have seen this more than a few times. Total tool...I actually saw him looking at us in his rearview mirror. Then I kinda actually fall back a little as I KNOW cops don't like you tailgating them. So we speed on down the road and we are coming up to a place where you actually exit to the left. So Cophole starts drifting to the left into the exit lane....yes, you guessed it, no turn signal. But that's not all, instead of actually exiting, he all of a sudden turns to the right as if he was going to jump back in the lane, and of course by this time I am up next to him, scared the hell out of my wife and I. What he was doing was actually positioning himself on that little area where an exit separates from the road so he could snag evildoers that cross the line of the law. Strike Two. My man is well on his way toward total Douchenozzlery. Well what is the reaction any responsible driver has when someone is about to enter their lane stupidly with great possibility of an accident, they lay on the horn! And much to my surprise (insert sarcasm here) the cop pulls out a few cars behind and comes up and you guessed it, pulls me over. So I get as far as I can over that would still allow his ample roundish frame to squeak up to my window, asks for my license and even before he gets to say anything I cannot help myself but I declare "you know, you scared the hell out of my wife and I back there". He says "excuse me, but the reason I pulled you over was because I couldn't see inside your car to see that you had enough passengers to be in the HOV lane" which was a total lie as I had already seen him looking at us in his rearview mirror, unless of course they have some special non-passenger viewing setting I don't know of. And said "well sir, I can't really comment on that, but you basically cut me off without signaling when you got in this lane, then you drifted into the Exit lane with no turn signal and then came right real quick as if you were coming back in the lane!....It scared the hell out of us sir, we thought you were going to hit us!" Note, I would never condone swearing to a cop but I was livid. This chubby pork rind eating sweating like a fiend turd demonstrated twice that he is a danger. THEN hosebeast says "well I'm a little concerned about your following too closely" ...Strike Three. He gets called out by a (dashingly handsome) well dressed feller with his equally (quite beautiful) nicely dressed wife and cannot admit it, and has to try and fall back on the lamest of arguments. Again, I saw that he was going to let me go so I refrained from pointing out to him that I wasn't following too close but rather he slowed down when he was in the exit lane until he scared us by turning to the right. Ladies and gentlemen, we have Total Douchnozzlery, courtesy of the Georgia State Patrol. You would think that someone would point out to these large foreheads that by them NOT following the laws, they are a danger to the traffic and we lose all respect for them. They are cops, if they signal, we'll get out of your way! Lastly, this guy never even looked at my license, I might as well have handed him a library card, although he likely would not have known how to use it. Here's to the men in blue. |

There are rotten apples in every bunch. Just remind yourself that there are a few good guys out there still and some places they outnumber the guys like this. I spent a week last summer at a miniature patrol academy that the OHP puts on for High School kids. It really opened my eyes and there were definitely some of the troopers there that would pull something like that but there were more of the give ya the shirt of their back type.
Just remember that no matter how wrong they are they have the authority to screw you over. Yes sir, No sir, Hands visible at all times and you are good. I still cant wrap my mind around him doing that, He catch a dude in a 3 screwing his wife this morning? Maybe he had it out for ya. |

I have great respect for most law enforcement, but it seems that the ones assigned to traffic duty are from the bottom 50%.

It would help all of us here in Georgia if you would write this up and send it to the Govenor and a copy to the attorney general. Hope you got his name. If not, it happened in Atlanta and they have cameras. It wouldn't be to hard for the state to figure out who it was.

My last ticket was almost 10 years ago. Told the funny story here, probably back when I was singpilot.
Recently however, another funny story. Not so funny cuz I mailed off the bail without appearing or fighting the ticket. Northbound on I-5, between Red Bluff and Williams (Glenn County) behind a guy in a jelly bean car in the fast lane doing 75-ish. If you know this stretch, it's long straight, with lots of shrubbery in the center median. Fairly heavily patrolled by C-185 and vehicle. Guy in front of me suddenly speeds up, one flash of the right turn signal, and darts into right lane in front of several cars moving with the semi's at 55-ish, and he slams on the binders. I am so captivated by this show that I failed to notice the CHP standing alongside his car in the median, peeing into the bushes. He gets back into his car as I pass, and immediately pulls out behind me and red lights me. He approaches and says the radar has me at 80+. License, insurance and reg. I asked him if he had me or the guy in front of me that evaded at the last second. He says all he saw was me. I asked if that meant his attention was diverted by his physiological need. He has no sense of humor. I figured I could have pled not guilty, but would have had to introduce his lack of prowess as evidence. Believe me, I could have had a field day. There were three women in my car. All had pretty good views of his 'lack of evidence'. Couldn't do it. I didn't even want to go the traffic school route. First charged ticket in 25 years. |

This did occur to me....funny thing that DWB. Not even looking at my license, didn't run the plate...apparently he just wanted me to point out to him what a tool he was. And yup, hands at 10 and 2, calm even voice but still told it like it was. |

Those trunklid numbers are pretty easy to see. But if it was around Atlanta, with the cameras, if you can remember about what exit was, you still may be able to accomplish something. ![]()

I'm seriously considering putting a small hard drive recorder and cameras/mics, front/back in my cars.

I lost respect for the Georgia State Patrol (Pelican member K9Torro excluded) many years ago. I used to have a 2nd home in North Carolina and would frequently drive from Florida to NC and back. Many times stopping over in Savannah for a night, or Valdosta, depending on the route we took.
I got sick of all the speed traps, on holiday weekends like Thanksgiving, there would be over 20 of them parked on the other side of an overpass with one shooting laser at everyone. I like to call this harassing the middle class white male. If you were in a Red Porsche 911, god help you. I swear I might have a brain tumor from all the laser and radar shot at that car driving through Georgia. I only got nailed once and it sucked because my V1's volume was turned down, furthermore, I moved out to the left to pass, I saw an SUV flying up behind me faster than expected so I sped up to get the pass over with faster, as luck would have it I drive into a laser trap. Cop had no use for my explanation, only "85 is much to fast to be driving". That began my Georgia boycott, I never stopped in the state for anything be it fuel, food or lodging. That $240 ticket cost the state of Georgia many thousands in lost revenue. I hope it was worth it to road tax me.

Have to be drunk or looking for trouble to honk at a cop. May as well gave him the finger too. Personally, I try to never drive within 100 yds of one.

A friend of mine years ago was driving down to New Orleans one spring break to go to Mardis Gras. This was from Massachusetts, so their route took them down I-95 to the I-10 and then westward. As fate would have it my friend had the driving shift through Georgia at about 3AM. You can probably guess where this is going...
So here's the situation: Georgia State Trooper on patrol pulls up behind 'em. They didn't stand a chance - 5 or 6 young college-age kids packed into their ride (think it was an Escort of some sort, but I forget) with YANKEE (MA) plates on the car at 3AM, doing 80 (like everyone else) in a 65. So naturally he gets pulled over. Big, burly, badass, attitude-filled douchenozzle trooper comes up to the window and does the classic thing where he puts his jackboot up on the front tire of the car with his other hand on his sidearm, gives the occupants a condescending look and says "y'all know how fast you was goin' back there boy?" My friend (always the smartass) thinks about this for a second and then says, "about as fast as Sherman?" (yes, he really did). Did a night in jail for that. Next day the rest of the group went down, bailed him out and they continued on to Mardis Gras. I don't think he ever went to his court appearance. It was probably worth it. GA is one of those places I avoid if possible.

My most recent encounter with the law:
Driving about 50 on a curving two-lane road that was partly thawing and partly still snow patches. Washington State trooper pulls me over. "Sir, I just wanted to ask you to be careful, this road still has icy patches. Ryan S___ in Wenatchee? No, I don't know that trooper. Oh, your left headlight is out too. Be careful and drive safe, sir. Good holidays." I guess I just have good karma [smug].
