Question about joining PCA.
I am joining the PCA in a few weeks and I have a question. I know they need a VIN on my car. What database do they search that in? Will it cause a problem that my car is still registered in my fathers name? Its not that much trouble to change it we just havent gotten a chance to switch it over.

I don't think they care as long as they get the money and have a P-Car VIN.

Thats kinda what we figure. Would rather not get stuck for excise tax twice.

Doesn't the PCA offer to add a second family member as part of the membership? Add him...

I plan on it but I wondered if me being the primary but the car registered in his name would be an issue. They shouldnt have access to the DMV registry tho should they?

I agree with MT930 as well, BTW.
Make your dad the secondary, send in the app and money and wait for the cards to show...

I wouldn't worry about it...I joined when I was 13 after my grandfather passed away, because I wanted to get panorama. Lied about my age and used the vin from his car. I'm still a member today

I was still looking when I joined. The registrar suggested using the VIN of my friend's 944 turbo, so I did.
They want a VIN, they don't care if it's correct. |

PM Vu (87turbolook911) on the board. He's the executive director. I don't think they do anything with the VIN. I don't think that they legally can.

I'd also get the local clubs newsletters and see if they do anything you would like to participate in.
It isn't like sitting around with people from the 911 tech forum here.

I know the local club does a monthly autox that I want to run in. They have a few other things that look intriguing and I have talked to a few of those guys on here.

PCA does not have any strict requirements as long as you pay your dues!!!! I have to wonder if you even have to own a Porsche anymore? Your entitled to have a second member onboard and they get a membership card with their very own name on it!!! I had my son's name on it for years.............How critical VIN numbers are here, I am not sure. In this economy, you have to wonder.
The PCA for many is a crazy kind of relationship depending on what Region you join and what your seeking out of it. Some are full of stuffed shirts while others are more open, social and embrace new members, offer more tech support, concours and rally events. I for one have been a member in my region for many, many years and attended maybe two meetings, which was enough for me. I keep my membership current for the Panorama magazine, Regional publication and event calendar strictly to stay abreast of car values any tech info, concours or tech sessions. I recommend EXCELLENCE magazine by the way, if you have yet to see an issue. Good luck Bob |
