ADAM LAMBERT IN NEGOTIATIONS TO BECOME LEAD SINGER OF QUEEN?

When asked today to comment on this by some Fox reporter, Adam's response:

"I think there was some interest, yeah."

Further pressed if he was in actual negotiations, Adam stated:

"No comment." (Actual qoute: "I plead the fifth.")

There was no denial of the rumor at all....which speaks volumes, at least to me.

Jesus, how freakin' awesome would that be!?! That would mean instant superstardom, and an immediate resurgence for Queen to the biggest rock act/draw on Earth.

Crossing my fingers.

12own911 05-21-2009 12:45 PM

That would be great but keep in mind what happened with INXS. They hired JD Fortune then let him go at an airport before a trip out of country.

This is true, but i'm sure we could all agree that Adam is lightyears more marketable than JD Fortune, and Queen is lightyears bigger as a draw (with Lambert) than INXS ever was, even in their prime.

If they score Lambert, they will be THE rock band for the next 10-15 years, assuming they can all get along and play nice, and write good new music.

Thanks for the vids.

KISS was so badass when I was 9 years old . . . and they still are to me! It's ironic because they wear makeup, but they've always had a "genuineness" to me that a lot of groups don't have.

I agree Lambert fit in well with Queen (not so much with KISS, imo), and would be good for Queen, but would they be good for him? Because (1) Freddy Mercury's shoes could never be filled, and (2) as great as Queen was, is it not better for him to not hook up with a group so old, but instead blaze (pun intended) a trail that is completely his own?

I think Lambert joining Queen would be a horrible move for him. It would cement him into the retro 80's rock guy mold. I would have no problem with him joining them for a one time world tour or something, that would be cool, but to join and then have Queen try to put out new albums?

Won't work. Queen was Queen because of Freddie. Lambert is not Freddie. He shouldn't try to be Freddie, he should do his own thing. Being stuck in front of some 60 year old guys and singing Fat Bottomed Girls isn't the way to build a career.

If I were Lambert, I'd pass...unless it was just a one time tour.

I'd love to see Adam fronting for Queen, but (there's always a but) who is the creative talent behind the group? If Freddy Mercury were the creative genius as well as the vocal talent, Adam's vocal talent alone won't move the band into new territory.

12own911 05-22-2009 12:22 PM

Adam is also creative so it would be okay... of course I believe Adam can create his own band and rock the place...

Adam has not accepted the offer Kim, so i'm guessing he feels the same way you do.

He is one brave SOB, in his shoes i'd have accepted the Queen offer immediately.

Queen confirms it's interest in Lambert:

LOS ANGELES, May 23 (UPI) -- Guitarist Brian May says his British rock group, Queen, is interested in having "American Idol" star Adam Lambert as its lead singer.

The Los Angeles Times, citing a Rolling Stone magazine interview with May, said Friday the Queen rocker unsuccessfully attempted to speak with Lambert during the season finale of the U.S. TV series this week.

"Amongst all that furor, there wasn't really a quiet moment to talk," May said of Wednesday's "Idol" finale, which Lambert lost to fellow contestant Kris Allen. "But (drummer Roger Taylor) and I are definitely hoping to have a meaningful conversation with him at some point."

But May did add his group, known for hits such as "Bohemian Rhapsody" and "Radio Ga Ga," would take its time finding a singer.

"It's not like we, as Queen, would rush into coalescing with another singer just like that. It isn't that easy," said the Queen guitarist, whose group's original lead singer Freddie Mercury died in 1991. "But I'd certainly like to work with Adam. That is one amazing instrument he has there."

Story from Rock and Roll daily continues here (from story above):

May, whose band recently ended a four-year-long partnership with singer Paul Rodgers, is comfortable with Idol as a launching point for the careers of rock singers. “You’d have to define ‘legitimate’ first,” he writes. “The long-term answer has to be that, if you have enough talent and enough will to succeed, you will get there by whatever route presents itself. Once you have scaled the castle walls, with the sword in your hand, it matters little
how you got there. I’ve not always been positive about shows like this, but there is no doubt that it offers a door to some real genuine talent along the way.”

“Both those boys are well worthy of big success,” May continues, in regard to Lambert and Idol winner Kris Allen. “So it’s pointless for someone like me to stand on the sidelines jeering. I’m confident Adam will make great use of this wonderful opportunity. I hope I’m there to see it.”

If lambert accepted the Queen job it would legitimize AI contestants in the rock Genre, something they haven't really achieved with radio even though Daughtry is one of the top rock acts on earth.

My local rock stations refuse to play him. I hardly see them refusing to play a new album from Queen.

Lambert should take the job, do it for a couple years(or forever if he loves it), and still have plenty of time for a solo career, one established and legitimized by his time with Queen.

Could Adam Lambert Become Queen's New Front Man?

By Adam Bryant
Mon May 25, 7:52 AM PDT

If you thought Adam Lambert looked like a natural fit with iconic rockers Queen during American Idol's finale, you weren't the only one.

Hours after it was announced that Lambert was Season 8's runner-up last week, widespread speculation began circulating that the 26-year-old singer had been offered a job as Queen's new front man. While that's not true yet, guitarist Brian May isn't ruling out the possibility.

"Amongst all that furor, there wasn't really a quiet moment to talk. But [drummer Roger Taylor] and I are definitely hoping to have a meaningful conversation with him at some point," May told Rolling Stone. "It's not like we, as Queen, would rush into coalescing with another singer just like that. It isn't that easy. But I'd certainly like to work with Adam. That is one amazing instrument he has there."

Queen recently ended a four-year relationship with Paul Rodgers, who was handling the vocal duties for the band.

Lambert auditioned for Idol with Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" and instantly became a buzzed-about contender for the show's Top 36. His revved-up, glam-rock numbers and hauntingly restrained ballads made him the front-runner all season before ultimately coming up short. While the show has produced more pop artists than rockers, May recognizes that springboard it provides young artists.

For now, Lambert must first complete the 50-city tour with his fellow Top 10 members, and the Idol producers, 19 Entertainment, will likely have first dibs on anything Lambert does next. May said whatever happens, he's excited to see what Lambert and Idol winner Kris Allen (who also shared the stage during "We Are the Champions") do next.

"Both those boys are well worthy of big success," May said. "So it's pointless for someone like me to stand on the sidelines jeering. I'm confident Adam will make great use of this wonderful opportunity. I hope I'm there to see it."

The Adam Lambert brouhaha resulting in a sales winner | Pop & Hiss | Los Angeles Times

Well i was certainly right about who would outsell who...

Amail 01-21-2010 08:57 AM

That article was from Novemer 25th. Do you have more recent sales numbers?

Also, did you pick up a copy of his CD? I got one for Christmas and was a little disappointed. I think his talent is his voice. Songwriting, not so much.

m21sniper 01-21-2010 08:59 AM

I definitely do not like the style of music on his new CD. I was really disappointed he didn't make a rock record.

I'll look for more recent sales records for the 2.

Total album sales as of Jan 14th : Adam Lambert 490,000 - Kris Allen 200,000

Comparing best singles, Allen's has outsold Lambert's 500,000 to 200,000

Somebody cares. 490,000 is a lot of records. I suspect that there are very few gay men in America without his album.

that's the problem..
very small & so fickle group..
establish yourself..
then get stupid..
now the only way he gets traction..
oh look..Adam dropped his pants on Nicklodeon..
he's already so yesterday..

m21sniper 01-21-2010 10:40 AM

Yeah, he went headlong after the freak segment. Not exactly a big market, but i'm sure he'll be a hit in the gay world for a long time.

Maybe some day he'll make a rock record and become the star he is capable of being. Shrug.

don't know how big the gay market is Snipe, but let's put those 490K records in perspective...

List of best-selling albums worldwide - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

List of best-selling albums in the United States - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

We have recording artists in Belgium that have records that sold 750 copies.. Belgium has only 11 million inhabitants... So 450 K, in the US...bigger country, more homegenous market then Belgium and neighbouring countries, 27 x more inhabitants, 450 K records is not what i call extraordinary big numbers...especially not considering the amount of exposure Lambert got via American Idols...

m21sniper 01-21-2010 11:02 AM

Oh i agree, his sales have been a mere fraction of what they could have been had he made a rock record. I would agree they're disappointing in that respect, but still, 490k albums is a lot of records for a guy who has deliberately positioned himself into a smallish niche market.

Guy could be huge if he just played to the masses. Oh well.

Agreed!

But I think it was always going to be a difficult choice for him. Either following his heart and perform how he wants and does right now. Or, change his character as not to be so confrontational.

I personally think he would have been more successful by first releasing an album of "standards" Taking the best songs and making them his own. Imagine an album with some Queen, Zepplin and even the NIN song he performed. This could have then given him more time to write and compose some better songs, rather than this mad rush to get a CD out for xmas.

Unfortunately unlike Daughtry (spl) he just isn't singing a decent song.

m21sniper 05-22-2010 05:31 PM

He's definitely blowing away Kris Allen in record sales, as i predicted last year. :)

Lambert is outselling the little guy at about a 3:1 clip.
