Adam Lambert
My god how does a talent like that go undiscovered for so long?
He just totally out did himself last night, earning the first standing ovation Simon Cowell has ever given in 8 seasons of AI. I feel bad for the people that are "too hip" to watch the show this year....they just don't know what they're denying themselves. |
You sound like my wife. I come here to get away from my wife.
... well, not really. ;) Simon? Wasn't he a chipmunk before this gig? |
He's good, but something about him bugs the crap out of me. Maybe it's the makeup and overall fruity look?
|
There were people who didn't like Freddie Mercury either. It baffles me, but it's true.
There's a site that calculates the busy signal for each contestant and has been 97% accurate to date. It showed Lambert garnering such a huge % of the votes last night that the other 7 contestants all scored low enough with the 3% margin of error that they are all projected to be in the bottom 3. Linky: http://www.dialidol.com/asp/predictions/predictions.asp Total domination. Here's last night's performance, no copyright infringement intended: http://s22.photobucket.com/albums/b343/m21sniper/?action=view¤t=adam-top8.flv Quote:

Who?
What? Why are people discussing that competitive jackass who tries to dominate the "star in a reasonably priced car" segment on Top Gear? |
Idol is my guilty pleasure. I love the idea that someone's life completely changes where they get the opportunity to demonstrate their talent. I think of guys like Chris Daughtry that was a service advisor at a car dealership, and now gets to tour the world singing. David Cook, an undiscovered talent, now a global star. That's so cool
My wife/daughter love Adam - my daughter is a huge broadway fan and Adam was on Wicked (which btw makes him a pro in my book); he is an amazing talent. My daughter downloaded his song last night just as he finished. |

And he just keeps getting better and better. I honestly don't even know how he can top yesterday's performance. |
There are actually adult men who admit to watching american idol? Yikes!

never mind, got to last post |

Ray Liotta was at the show last night. You'd have to look pretty far and wide to find a more manly type man than Ray Liotta. |

Interesting. I have always 'worshipped' at the altar of the all time great rock vocalists. Plant, Mercury Roth, Tyler, Rose....and now Lambert. He's that good. All i can say is, thank you god. Quote:
Rumor has it he's bi. I don't particularly care, i just want to hear him sing. :) |

I do not watch the show and intentionally stay outside as long as possible because my wife and daughters watch. However, I do make a point of watching Adam sing because that dude can rock. And the intro interview with his parents was dang funny - his mom talking about how he as a youngster was into costumes and dressing up and his dad says, "Sports . . not so much." in a way that any dad could relate to. |
I haven't heard a near-falsetto voice from a white guy since, since Barry Gibb or... Michael Jackson.
The real guys: Farinelli: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A8t_WySo414&feature=related .... or Jaroussky http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9zQX2XqAE8c&feature=related Sherwood |
He reminds me of a mix between Plant/Mercury/Tyler.
I don't know exactly what makes a superstar a superstar, but when you see one it's obvious. http://aboutadamlambert.com/wp-conte...ambert-rof.jpg |

Do like most of the Queen songs does that make me gay ? |
I haven't been watching it this year, but Lambert's definitely extremely talented. "Mad World" is the only thing I've heard him sing... thanks for posting the link, Sniper.
Don't mean to hijack, but for anyone who doesn't believe you can catch some amazing talent on a show like this, the gold standard for me has been Jordis Unga doing Baba O'Riley on Rock Star INXS... turn this up and get your ears pinned back... soulful, killer phrasing, and just raw power: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uVnTfZFP4yU |
I watched the 2nd season of Rockstar, the one with Supernova.
Dilana totally owned that show IMO. Her interpretation of Ring of FIre by Johnny Cash was re-interpreted yet again by Lambert in week 3 of AI. Here's that performance. The acid-rock Led Zeppelin influence punches you right in the senses. :) <embed width="448" height="361" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" src="http://i22.photobucket.com/player.swf?file=http://vid22.photobucket.com/albums/b343/m21sniper/adam_top11.flv"> This one got him a standing ovation from Smokey Robinson, whose song it was he was singing. The last note is a masterpiece: <embed width="448" height="361" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" src="http://i22.photobucket.com/player.swf?file=http://vid22.photobucket.com/albums/b343/m21sniper/adam-top10.flv"> This is his brilliant interpretation of Black and White by Michael Jackson: <embed width="448" height="361" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" src="http://i22.photobucket.com/player.swf?file=http://vid22.photobucket.com/albums/b343/m21sniper/adam_13.flv"> Here is his week 4 performance of Play that funky music: <embed width="448" height="361" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" src="http://i22.photobucket.com/player.swf?file=http://vid22.photobucket.com/albums/b343/m21sniper/adam-top9.flv"> Here's the encoded version of last night's performance...the only Simon Cowell standing O in 8 seasons of AI: <embed width="448" height="361" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" src="http://i22.photobucket.com/player.swf?file=http://vid22.photobucket.com/albums/b343/m21sniper/adam-top8.flv"> |
Dude, what's up with your Adam Lambert lovefest? He's got talent but I think he's too fruity for primetime.
|
Like Freddie Mercury was too fruity for prime time?
Too fruity for prime time? What's up with me? Hmmm....i guess the same thing that's up with everyone... :) http://www.dialidol.com/asp/predictions/predictions.asp You might want to check last night's voting in the above link to test the validity of your statement. He is totally dominating the voting thus far this season. He is obviously far more mainstream than you thought. :) PS: That site has been 97% accurate to date. |
My wife has always watched American Karaoke, but not me, until this season. I wanted to see what all the hype was about. The gap in talent between Lambert & everyone else is huge. Allison has a great voice, but is too damn annoying. Scott MacIntrye probable wouldn't have made it to the final 12 if he wasn't blind, & everyone else in utterly forgettable IMHO.
Lambert has the best falsetto I've heard since Maxwell. I'll be curious to see what direction he will go musically after he wins. I hope it's something unique & not the generic top 40 crap everyone else puts out. I wonder how someone with a distinct voice, like Micheal McDonald, would fare on the show. |
Can you name someone equally fruity right now selling mega records? I'm thinking most of the voters are kids, teeny bopper girls who probably have no idea of his sexual orientation.
|
Don't get me wrong, I think he'll win.

What's the name of that heroine addict everyone loves? Amy Winehouse. She's completely off the deep end IMO. And really Elton John has been so fruity for so long everyone just looks at him as normal now. LOL. ;) I always found Madonna to be a blatant whore and nut job too. And very, very racy in her day. Prince was just plain wierd from day 1. I honestly don't see anything fruity about Lambert, he's just flaming gay. Not a lifestyle i would ever choose, but that's irrelevant to me when judging him as an entertainer/performer. All i know is when he sings, i get chills. And that is exactly what i'm looking for in my music. :) Quote:

Speaking of great enigmatic singers.
This is off this guys newest album, and IMO is one of the greatest works he has ever done. Haunting and beautiful. I thought the guy was washed up like everyone else did. Then i heard this: Axl at his absolute best: <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/DzfkcLwwGX0&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/DzfkcLwwGX0&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> |
Adam Lambert is hands down the most talented person they have ever had on that show.
Have to admit I look forward to hearing what he will do each week. |
And Scott goes home

We TIVO! JUST turned it on and my wife was saying it would be him and BAM there's your post. |

After watching her performances from AI1 again i gotta say- she was really good. That would be one hell of a competition between those two. |
I am semi hooked on this show thanks to my wife. Without a doubt his last performance was the best of all AI seasons and he is in a league of his own IMO.
Gay or not I would definitely buy his album which I cannot say for any of the other AI performers(past or present). |

I think if Scott isn't voted off this week Im boycotting. Snipes is right Adam is a huge talent and cant believe he hasn't been scooped up before this show. His voice is unreal. I would like to here him do some Zep (Babe I'm gonna Leave you). |

Here are her flagship AI performances. It's a really tough call, but i agree that no one else in the same league as either one of them (i say this as AI3 winner Kerry Underwood just won country entertainer of the year- again. Not really my kind of music though). This first one is often hailed as the best performance in AI history, but i actually think some of her other performances were better: <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/64S5Rn9mlxs&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/64S5Rn9mlxs&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> These next 2 are usually mentioned as among the top 10 AI performances: <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/bUAmbsaKMBw&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/bUAmbsaKMBw&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/sPvMUHZt--Y&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/sPvMUHZt--Y&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> While not my favorite song, this one i think was her best performance. She hits a Mariah Carey whistle note then immediately follows it up with a gruf low register growl that shows full 4 octave range in a 2 second span, and had the judges stuttering and repeating themselves like O without a teleprompter: <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/8DzHcAs8mMY&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/8DzHcAs8mMY&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> Of course Adam still has half a season left to go... |
Adam Lambert is an incredible talent. Don't care if he's gay, straight or has three heads. He rocks the house.
angela |
he's no Freddy Mercury though, not even close
neither in the fruit department nor in the voice department |
I think Freddie had a little more range than Adam, but not a whole lot. Probably the same is true for Plant. I think he could probably sing anything either one of them sang and still make it sound good though. Perhaps not as good, but he is unquestionably a superstar talent. You may like freddie's tone/style a lot better, but range wise Adam is almost on par with the legendary Mr.Mercury.
I think the most direct and relevant comparison would be to Steven Tyler. Which is of course really saying something. |
I don't watch, but the local morning news shows always have a recap, and though I couldn't tell what he was singing, I did see Cowell stand and applaud, so went to YouTube...
The slow cover of Mad World was exceptionally well done. Not entirely original, since Gary Jules and his partner's version was used in Donnie Darko, but this guy added to it. From what I got in the news clips, other performers didn't seem to feel the lyrics in the songs they chose, and this guy seemed to. Impressed. |
As far as "Natural Woman" goes, Aretha is still tops.
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/SyolMNsN0Ig&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/SyolMNsN0Ig&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> ...and its songwriter isn't too shabby either: <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/hr0Vto0n5DA&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/hr0Vto0n5DA&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> ... and this lady Morgan sounds pretty damn good. Watch for her somewhere: <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/eWQIfLyXEko&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/eWQIfLyXEko&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> Adam Lambert? To each his own. I realize music tastes are subjective. Sherwood |
