Odds are it was the Gokey church vote that made the difference. It certainly wasn't the performances in the finale, because Lambert sang circles around Kris in last night's show. I suppose all that will be analyzed in the days ahead, but i don't really care. Neither do they i think- they are both really great friends. At any rate, if nothing else, it frees Lambert from having to be stuck with that hideous coronation song as his first single. If i was him, i'd be in serious discussions with KISS, or Queen, or Slash. Because he sounded great with both KISS and Queen, and the life as a legendary rock and roll lead singer is the one he was born for IMO. I'm happy for Kris. I think he'll do well and have a nice career, but Lambert is going to be gihugic. Can't wait til i can buy his record. |
Great finale. The early AI finales were full of B list has been singers. Now they are pulling Rod Stewart, Lionel Richie, Cindy Lauper, Kiss and Queen. Amazing. The only way it would have been better would be to have Adam on stage with Velvet Revolver and do a whole G'n'R set.
I figured Adam would win, he seemed to have all the momentum. I will say that him hitting those screaming high notes on almost every song did tend to get old. I wonder if that is part of why he lost...gotta know when to pull it back you know? I thought his Mad World was better than the first time, I was NOT crazy about the 2nd song, I thought he hit the high notes way too often. Completely agree that the DioGuardi song is crap, but what AI finale song hasn't been? Super props to Kara (my only props of the year...can't stand that woman) for the bikini flash, she actually has a bod! |
I think the most surprised person on that stage was Kris.
Bogus. |
If Lambert was straight he wins. It's hard for teen aged girls to get crazy and vote til their fingers bleed when they know you're unobtainable. Plus being gay is going to cost you heavily in the bible belt. Gays are only 2% of the population, so as rabid as they may have been about him there's no way they could overcome the bible thumping gokey masses.
That being said, it was apparently extremely close. Dial Idol(the only prediction site that was right by the way), had it at less than a 1% margin of victory. I'm happy for the little fella. Classic underdog david vs goliath/cinderella story. The American dream personified really. Besides, seeing Lambert with KISS tonight just reinforced my belief that he is poised for "all time greatness." I mean he could literally join KISS and make them right now, overnight, one of the hottest Rock bands on earth, bring them right back to their heyday and then some. Queen too, for that matter. |
I guess America isn't ready for a gay Idol.
|
According to AT&T, 38 million votes came in from Arkansas last night. There's the difference.
Kris will benefit more from the win than Adam career-wise. So I'm okay with that. The supposition that the good 'ol US of A can't elect a Gay Idol makes me sad. |

Don't worry, I'm sure someday gays will be able to break down the barriers and finally be employable in the entertainment industry.

California folks are super laid back, no way they'd match the rednecks interest level or commitment. LOL... Quote:
All that, and it was still a razor thin margin of victory for the little guy. Quote:
At any rate, it looks like IN Arkansas, Kris will be huge. Everywhere else- not so much. |

America isn't ready for a male idol that wears black nail polish.

Seriously though the result is so wrong, that it will impact the value and credibility of the AI franchise. My guess is the people who are making bags of money off of this show are already trying to figure out some way to prevent this kind of multiple voting in future.

Huckabee should sing better..
Kris..1 CD and gone, well maybe a FORD or GM comm. Adam..we will hear and see much more.. Rika |

But i do agree with you. Allen, while talented, is nowhere near in the same league as Lambert vocally. |
The painted nails did him in. They don't take kindly to painted nails in Arkansas.
|
The duet showed who is the better singer, but that was after the votes were in. Lambert singing with Queen - "we are the champions". Man, you cannot invent this stuff.
At the end of the day, it is a democratic process and for the most part works.. |
I've never watched Idol, but I've gotten the gist of the competition from the local news shows. Somebody made a really good observation this morning: Lambert is able to perform a wide range of styles, so you 'never know what you're going to get.' Chris was apparently more predictable. Idol watchers like predictable.
|
I always figured that the "voting" was essentially bogus.
The show has an inherit interest in seeing certain people stay and go. Whether it is to create an appropriate diversity mix, or to get talk shows buzzing about, can you believe XYZ was eliminated. If Lambert is as good as some people here are claiming. His loss probably has a significant financial gain for someone. All I know is the winner has a guaranteed 1 million dollar contract, 2nd place has doors a bit more open. Just a thought that is all. I honestly don't follow the show, maybe AT&T truely is an independant vote counter, I really don't know. I'm just guessing they aren't. |

I would be willing to bet that no matter what AT&T reports, the vote count takes place in the Idol producer's office. Wasn't it Stalin who said 'It doesn't matter who votes, only who counts the votes.' |
I thought the finale was awesome as I haven't seen that many big name stars (even at the Grammys) on one show. I thought that Santana was phenomenal and Adam's performance with KISS was great too....I just wish KISS would have given him more lead-singer status instead of them hogging 70% of the vocals.
|
The better musician won. Lambert is more of a crowd pleaser....
|
The finale was great. I'll watch allot of it again now that I found that it DID get recorded in HD as well. Did anyone mention Carlos Santana played??!!!
Adam with the remnants of Queen was cool - a potential Freddie Mercury like front-man. Maybe John Deacon will anoint Adam worthy of performing with him and May. The KISS medley really shows what Adam can do in the future - revive old rock bands! As noted by others, Adam's use of his aggressive scream was starting to wear on me too. Few have mentioned how his staging was different from everyone else. Was he the only one allowed to play with the lights, smoke, screens?? But just as he used them to his advantage, for the most part he used them with little variety. Que the stage - Adam enters from the back, back-lit, with or without smoke. After the song's intro, high contrast spots and the video screens get fancy. This is how I remember most of his performances. The other contestants never seemed to take advantage of anything but the stage. Kris showed he is a performer with deep talent by playing guitar and keyboard well - it adds a lot to his impact. A few observations regarding voting indicate how predictably unpredictable it can be: ** A lot of people don't know you can vote more than once, even big fans. Arkansas apparently got the word out. ** During the early finals voters vote for who they do not want to leave NOT who is the best. ** Judges, primarily Simon, with their comments get people to vote, or not. When he says "you are sure to be around" watch out. When he says "you are in danger" it is protective. ** When a contestant is voted off the voters for that individual will vote for someone else. Danny's votes mostly went to Kris. Archileta's margin of vote-happy tweens couldn't even overcome this effect last year as mature people were not-voted off. ** My family only votes on the final night. The vote totals reflect this trend. |
No one has said anything about bikini girl.

Actually I was not a fan of the boob job.
The problem with a boob job on a skinny girl is that the skin gets stretched so much the boobs end up 3 feet apart...totally weird looking IMHO. |
